Honestly I’m not sure if Gatsby is the kind of story that can really benefit from this. My main problem with the recent film was that it felt like it was style over substance. While that doesn’t inherently happen with musicals, it still happens a lot with all the flashy music. Ironically enough, the problem of the previous film adaptation was that it had no style and was just pretty boring.
Wildhorne has had one floating around for years .It has undergone many title changes .Sadly it will never reach Broadway. If it did I would buy the cast album and be content as do enjoy his music. To haters of his shows he only writes the music and not the lyrics.
I really liked the Luhrmann film, it did a great job at capturing the book's hallucinogenic take on the excess and rot of the 20s. If the musical version can be as witty and lurid, I might be into it.
