I feel completely out of the loop on Broadway -- like, I've paid it no attention over the last year and a half due to being out of the country and then starting a new job. But I have a rare night free tonight, and want to dip into my old habit of grabbing a last-minute ticket to something fun.
I've had some great successes with random shows from TKTS (e.g. School of Rock and The Other Josh Cohen were both a shockingly good time), and some big busts too, of course (Gettin' the Band Back Together was damn near unwatchable).
So, what's good out there right now? What's just a big, fun (even dumb) good time? Doesn't have to be on TKTS.
Off the top of my head, shows currently running that I've already seen: Hadestown (awesome), Hamlet (great), Wicked (fantastic), Little Shop (I really wanted to love it, but I still think my college dorm's 1997 production was peak Little Shop).
Oh, Mary! comes to mind but will probably be difficult to rush for and isn't a musical. In terms of what you can find on TKTS today, I'd recommend Dead Outlaw.

IMO Oh, Mary! is one of the funniest shows I've seen in years, and I'm usually a much bigger fan of musicals than plays. But you're right, it will not be easy to rush. Either way, I suggest OP not miss this one.
