If you want something that you probably haven't heard before, listen to The Ballad of the Sad Young Men from The Nervous Set. Also, Yellow Dum from The Grass Harp.
This is really random but I find myself going to Patti LuPone singing As Long As He Needs Me from OLIVER! from her Patti LuPone: Live album. The way she sings it on that album always gives me a rush of emotion. And that voice.
I'm really looking forward to what people are saying in this thread! I have Youtube at the ready!
I know this doesn't sound tasteful in the slightest, but "Totale Finsternis" from Tanz der Vampire is actually very lovely to listen to despite sharing the same tune with Total Eclipse of the Heart. (If you listen to the Steve Barton version, your ears will simply melt.)
The title song from Rebecca is also pretty chill-inducing.
"Was uns befreit, das muss stärker sein als wir es sind." -Tanz der Vampire
People Like Us from THE WILD PARTY Magic Moment from THE GAY LIFE Will He Like Me from SHE LOVES ME Old Maid from 110 IN THE SHADE More Than One Way from SKYSCRAPER Love Song from CELEBRATION Nowhere to Go But Up from KNICKERBOCKER HOLIDAY Two Ladies In The Shade Of The Banana Tree from HOUSE OF FLOWERS
And for those of you with access to a good record store:
Come To The Masquerade from MAN WITH A LOAD OF MISCHIEF More Of The Same from HOW TO STEAL AN ELECTION Welcome Little One from WHISPERS ON THE WIND
Oh, whoops. Yes, Yellow Drum is from The Grass Harp. I get them confused all the time, which doesn't make a lot of sense, considering the scores are really different.
I love Soliloquy from Carousel. The melody is gorgeous and the ending always gives me chills. Patti Lupone singing I Dreamed A Dream is just so beautiful too. Quiet from Matilda creates such a peaceful feeling whenever I listen to it.
I feel like everytime there's a post towards "favorite X" it's like a competition to write shows/songs that no one is really familiar to.... and I LOVE IT.
Feeling Good on the original cast recording of "The Roar of the Greasepaint- The Smell of the Crowd" is just freaking gorgeous and I always find myself forgetting that it exsists.
"This Is What It Is" from THE WILD PARTY (The Good One) "Loving You" and "I Wish I Could Forget You (Finale)" from PASSION "Lot's Wife" and "Underwater" from CAROLINE, OR CHANGE
"Sticks and stones, sister. Here, have a Valium." - Patti LuPone, a Memoir
"I Am What I Am" La Cage Aux Folles "Fabulous, Baby!" Sister Act "Home" & "If I Can't Love Her" Beauty and the Beast "No Good Deed" Wicked "So Much Better" Legally Blonde "I Will Never Leave You" Side Show "Hold Me In Your Heart" & "The Soul of a Man" Kinky Boots "As If We Never Said Goodbye" Sunset Boulevard "I'd Give My Life for You" Miss Saigon
Pat Suzuki singing I Enjoy Being a Girl, from Flower Drum Song You've Got To Be Taught, from South Pacific Momma Look Sharp, from 1776 The Day After That, from Kiss of the Spider Woman Make Our Garden Grow, from Candide
