I am the uncle of a girl who likes to sing musical theater songs. Isn't there a duet for Annie and Daddy Warbucks where they sing together?

What other duets have been written for the older man/younger child configuration?

I Don't Need Anything But You is the song from Annie you're thinking of.

I'm sure you could work out something from Violet.

A little known fact is that in the original screenplay, Pan's Labyrinth was Pan's FLAByrinth. Hmmmmmmm...glad they changed it.

The only one that comes to mind is "Hello, Little Girl" from Into the Woods and I have a feeling that's not what you're looking for. Does it, strictly speaking have to be a middle-aged man? I get that you don't want to do a big romantic ballad, but maybe a brother-sister or two friends. Something from You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, for example. The one where Sally tells Franklin her new philosophy or Lucy's Little Known Facts would give her a chance to show off.

Uh, Stewart, that's not Franklin, that's Schroeder. He's just played by a black guy.

And anything but Hello Little Girl.

And shut up, B3TA07

Any song from ANNIE was the first thing to pop into my head.

You could probably try a bunch of selections from the Sound of Music too!

King and I has "Whistle a Happy Tune".

For something more recent, you could try anything from Lion King or Mary Poppins that works.

We do a lot of these in our "Family Follies" night each year that I direct for our Church and School. Many families can seem to make any song work by simply splitting the parts of their favorite songs between the parents and the kids.

Your choices are almost unlimited if you take that approach!

Good Luck!...and Good for you for helping keep your niece's interest in the theater! That's where new talent is nutured!

And also obviously not too familiar with the tilte or proper spelling, either.

Thanks for you post B'way Gal. I saw the song sung by Eddie Fischer on UTube. The lyrics make it clear that the subject is adult romantic love between a man and a woman. The oroiginal poster for the musical shows Fred Astair dancing with an adult woman. So it's not suited to my purposes. Thanks anyway, though.

Thank you, Oranges. Now I will try to license the Disney arrangement of the song. Hopefully it won't be too expensive.

I agree that "Hello Little Girl" is creepy. Keep your mind out of the gutter, please. The other suggestion seemed off-topic. Thanks anyway, though.

"The first man you remember" ....Ah, yes, love that one. My father and I danced to that at my wedding reception. It was my choice for the bride/father-of-the-bride dance.

There is the other duet in Aspects, too--the "I am a mermaid" one for Alex and the younger Jenny (I think she's about 11 in that scene).

I also suggest "First Man You Remember" a beautiful and touching song.

The mermaid one is a bit short if I recall correctly.

"Papa's Gonna Make It Alright" from Shenandoah (actually the father sings it in Act 1 and the daughter reprises it in Act 2, but it could be arranged as a duet)

"One Small Girl" from Once on This Island could be adapted

"Wherever We Go" from Gypsy

"The Apple Doesn't Fall" from The Rink (it's mother/daughter but it could work)

Isn't the character Violet in her 20's? Or are you thinking of some other character (I'm not familiar with the show yet)? My niece is still only 5 years old (but she does an awesome "Dites-moi!")

That's more a solo for young Cosette; Valjean doesn't have too much of a singing part in that other than "la la..."

I also suggest "First Man You Remember" a beautiful and touching song.

Not if you watch the Michael Ball/Diana Morrison music video. Then it's just weird and Vogue-like.
