Damn Yankees Revival 2027

Not sure if there was a thread or not for this yet. Couldn't find it in the search bar.

Anyway, there was supposed to be an announcement for this on Wednesday August 12 2026 on the Today Show with Hough, NPH and Scott.

However, obviously the announcement did not occur. I wonder what happened the last minute the night before? Are they recasting? Apparently, Hough posted on her Instagram that we doing a photoshoot soon. Damn Yankees Revival 2027

I saw this in Dc and it was wonderful. What a shame both Jordan Donica and Rob McClure ( both of whom won Helen Hayes awards for their parts) will be replaced. This along with the addition of the insufferable NPH has changed this from one of the shows I was most looking forward to seeing to a show I have 0 interest in going to.

Might they be changing theaters last minute? Possibly a current Bway show might be announcing their closing and they switch to that theater (Circle?).
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Perhaps but I'd be surprised if it's Circle. Them just announcing Whitney Leavitt for Dec makes me think they're not about to announce a closing, even for after Dec.

It's not Circle, no more in-the-round staging.

Without the in the round staging I can't help but think "why?" with this revival? What makes it so special or need to happen? Just the casting?

The why is the major updating of the book, and the casting that comes with it.

I think NPH is part of the Disney D23 this weekend, maybe it was a scheduling conflict keeping from making the announcement this week.

Is there any clarity as to what Lynn Ahrens contributed for this revival? I'd be interested in an interview about how she collaborated / updated things.

The thread below has become the defacto one for the Damn Yankees revival:

Probably does make sense to have its own thread now.

Re: Re: Damn Yankees Revival 2027

They never actually wanted to stage the production in the round to begin with, Arena Stage asked them to because it was an expensive production and this allowed for more seats in the space. It will be restaged for a proscenium theatre. Circle in the Square is not big enough.

Her focus was updating lyrics in places where it was deemed necessary - I do know off the top of my head that she wrote some new lyrics for “Those Were The Good Old Days” and “The Game”. I believe she also made small changes throughout the score (like in “Six Months Out Of Every Year”) to reflect the new setting of the show - i.e. turning all of the Washington Senators references into Baltimore Orioles references, “We met in 1938” becoming “1968”, etc.

And the actual original rumor is that The Goat or Who is Sylvia with Sarah Paulson and Pedro Pascal is expected to go into Circle in the Square, don’t know if that’s still happening.
