And so you deliberate chose to say "allergies" because that would sound less serious and therefore portray him in a negative light.

Is that correct?

Not at all. I was under the impression that it was allergies until you mentioned bronchitis. I was meeting in the middle saying that it was an ENT issue.

I think my earlier posts clearly state that I wish the man no harm.

I'm amazed that men like showinoff can be so shallow, thick and slow.

Donna Murphy missed a lot during Wonderful Town.
And Laura Benanti (Wedding Singer?).

And talk about that slacker Jan Maxwell-- out 2 whole days after being hit by a car.

Can I add that I wish changes would come to JCS? It doesn't even have to be Kushnier taking over Judas, though that would be ideal; just make some transpositions so this guy Young isn't slowly raping his voice into the ground.

I've seen both Young (in La Jolla) and Kushnier (Broadway) but honestly, Young was far, far better than Kushnier at the performance I saw. I really like Kushnier so it's no disrespect to him but I think Young just exuded charisma and sensuality in a way that really brought out the best in Kennedy & Nolan. In fact, I actually thought that with Kushnier in the role that the love triangle seemed a lot more flat than it seemed in La Jolla. However, since Young does appear to be have some degree of vocal strain, perhaps Kushnier & Young could split some of the performances. Then Kushnier's fans could know when to expect him and Young could avoid further vocal strain.

That performances doesn't do Josh any justice at all. He's a million times better in the play. He doesn't sing it operatically like that in JCS at all.

Josh Young was still out tonight...and though I really loved a lot of Kushnier's acting choices, he really wasn't sounding so hot. I definitely prefer Young in the role. Even though he was clearly not 100% the last time I saw him, Young still sounded stronger than Kushnier did tonight. Fingers crossed that he's recovering and can return soon.

So I haven't seen Josh in the role, but I saw Jeremy on as Judas two weeks ago. I don't get the praise for him. I thought he was awful. The man can't act his way out of a paper bag. And he wasn't in good voice either. He was definitely screaming to get the top notes out. For me, the standout of the show was definitely Paul Nolan. Also, who let Chilina Kennedy on a Broadway stage? She's horrendous.

Jeremy is on again this afternoon. I didn't realize the Paul Nolan and Chilina Kennedy are a real life couple. Probably helps her tears come more easily when he's getting whipped.

That's surprising to me that Nolan/Kennedy are a real-life couple considering that there's not a lot of sexual chemistry between them. I guess it's been a deliberate choice to play Mary as sweetly innocent rather than poor acting.

Anyway, Josh Young recently posted on twitter/facebook that his bacterial infection has turned into laryngitis and that he's currently on vocal rest. However, he did say that he was definitively coming back to the show when his health improves. So, unless McAnuff & company pull a fast one on Josh, there won't be any casting changes.

And honestly, I'm glad. Kushnier is a talented actor but I think Young--when he's healthy & on his game--is an absolutely stand out in this role.

Chilina Kennedy got excellent reviews when she played Evita at Stratford last year (opposite Young as Che). I think she's talented, but Mary Magdalene doesn't seem like the right role for her, and she seems bored with it.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I have to agree. Kennedy was absolutely electric as Maria in West Side Story and her Evita was unique and quite interesting, but her Mary seems particularly dull and "soft" in performance. It's so odd to see a flat performance after seeing her burn up the stage in the past.

Dammit people I'm a doctor! Well, will be soon. I'm glad I saw Josh while he was healthy because he is unparraleled in the role. I went back expecing to see Josh last week and was sorely let down. Jeremy is fantastic. But Josh is one of a kind. period.

Sombody mentioned on twitter that Josh had to leave mid performance due to breathing problems. Now you guys are saying Bronchitis. It sounds like he's definitely had a respriatory infection of some sort for some time now.

If he went on and did the show sick, bacteria could have easily spread to all airways, and singing on this is a bad idea and will lead to laryngitis and I hope that's all it is.

But seriously, it could be something much worse from the details people are saying and I think it's horrible to have any ill will toward somene who is having a health issue. Like their performance or not. I hope he gets better and I hope the show gets recorded. Rippedman, his voice has handled it to rave reviews for a year btw...sickness happens.

Does anyone know if Jeremy Kushnier and Nick Cartell been following a set schedule for their alternating performances as Judas, or does it change weekly etc.? Thanks!
