Carrie sounds wonderful here! I can't wait to see the full broadcast. The Lonely Goatherd is clearly my favorite from the Sound of Music. I do wonder, though, if Carrie's version will be sampled in a pop song, such as Gwen Stefani did here: Wind It Up - Gwen Stefani (first Fiddler, now Fraulein Maria)
I was a skeptic at first. But, I think Carrie sounded good here. I've also been drawn in by some of the promos with My Favorite Things.
I don't know anything about key changes for singers, so I wouldn't know the difference between what they did for Mary Martin and Julie Andrews. But, I will confess I am not familiar with Mary Martin in the role because I was a Sound of Music virgin until 10 years ago. I knew some of the songs, but that was about it. I honestly have no idea why I never saw the movie until I went to college. But, it was worth the wait because the class I saw it in was awesome.

Just to follow up re this production, I was at an Audra McDonald concert last night (she was brilliant) and she said, "i've got to sing this number in front of a LOT of people live on Dec. 5, so would you mind if I practiced on you?", and then sung "Climb Every Mountain." Naturally, she killed it. I might have to watch this now.

Frankly, at 46 when "Sound of Music" opened Mary Martin was a little long in the tooth for Maria. Julie Andrews was not yet 30 when the movie was filmed - and Carrie is now 30 herself- so about right maybe.

I would have loved to hear that at the concert she did last month in LA. Audra is the only reason I'll watch SOM, and she had some very funny comments about it at her concert. She joked that she would be the "darkest Mother Abbess ever" and then said her character "comes from the sunny side of the Alps." Then she mentioned that her comments probably weren't part of NBC's talking points.
