What's your favorite song lyric?

Mine is

"So if you kiss me, if we touch, warning's fair--I don't care-- very much."

Sends shivers up and down my spine, but in a good way. re: Cabaret-- a Discussion

I especially like how Alan Cumming held that last note for like 15 seconds on the revival soundtrack. :)

I'm definitely not that decisive.

But one that just popped into my head:
In here, life is beautiful. The girls are beautiful. Even the orchestra is BEAUTIFUL!

Is that in Willkommen or the Finale?

Both; I'm indecisive.

The Finale was so much more impactful, but had he not said it at the beginning too, it would've been far less jarring.

That's true. I like how in the beginning he relishes the word beautiful, but in the Finale he says it with bitterness and a touch of hatred and irony.

And I also like how he introduces Sally for Cabaret right after Cliff got beat up.

And he doesn't seem to care. :p

Awww. How cute. :)

And the song ties in with the Finale where he says "And I was dancing with Sally Bowles . . . and we were both fast asleep . . ."

I love it. In my production the director cut Why Should I Wake Up and opted not to use the 1987 new song Don't Go. I was upset since I could see how both songs were character driven, but he wanted Cliff to not sing and be more of an outsider to the world...but that doesn't explain Perfectly Marvelous. I suppose I'm still Bitter. :)

Oh well. At least Cliff got to sing once. (Twice if you count the Finale)

Why are you bitter? Were you Cliff in the production? :)

And for the female Emcee, during the drumroll for the Finale she slowly unzipped her coat.

The audience seemed a bit uneasy (I think they thought it was going to be a concentration camp uniform underneath.)

But no, it was her master of ceremonies shirt.

Her right arm came out from the coat, then her left.

She had previously been smiling, but as her left arm was revealed, a scowl took its place.

The audience gasped.

On her left arm was a swastika armband.

When the cymbals clashed, she gave the Nazi salute, bowed, and left.

The audience clapped 1 minute later (we counted).

(So basically the emcee took off her coat, revealing a Nazi armband underneath. She saluted and left. The audience was so shocked they didn't clap until a minute later.)

Sorry if that sounded confusing. (I'm not very good at describing someone taking off a coat.)

I don't think I would clap either. That doesn't make any sense.

When I saw it, people clapped for the actors at their curtain calls, a good solid minute after the scene had ended - not until.

Same with us. And Wonderboy, I edited it, so maybe it makes better sense. (I hope)

No, I still don't understand. Why would the MC be a Nazi all of a sudden?

She wasn't 'all of a sudden'. It had been implied throughout the play.

Gotcha! Now, I get it. I don't like that choice though.

I see. She had this really demonic grin during the goosestepping kickline and sang a bright, happy Willkommen during the Finale when the music was flat.
