Say goodbye to Broadway, if that happens. They won't survive another shutdown. At least not the current crop. And it would take the better part of a decade to build back up again.

AIN'T TOO PROUD appears to be back on today (both shows).

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I’m wondering if (when) “Music Man” inevitably needs to cancel, if they can add a matinee or two even a couple weeks out, and make them first available to people who had tickets to cancelled shows. Not sure if something like that would be feasible but would be great for a sold out show like this.

Does that mean Harry Potter will test everyone again between now and this evening to ensure everyone is negative?

I keep telling myself what are the odds of the exact show I’m seeing that night being cancelled. Tonight was my first show of the trip, Tina, and lo and behold cancelled.
Let’s hope the rest of my shows go as planned!

Boy, it seems like it makes a lot of sense for some kind of Jan-March hiatus. Who's going to feel comfortable making plans and spending all of that money to come to NY to see shows which may get cancelled anyway? And how many shows make money during that period during the best of times? I can't see many shows making money now, outside of the few big hits.

Somewhat related question: for those here who are in the midtown area, where are you getting your Covid testing done? I'm not waiting in a CityMD line, but I want to have some piece of mind going into Christmas week as social interactions are starting to increase.

In Hells Kitchen, I’ve used MiDoctor on 9th Ave several times and have zero complaints about them.

When I was in NYC in August they had free Covid testing on every few blocks. Not sure if that's a thing now that it's colder.

As of last week, just under 25% of the eligible US population had received a booster shot - atrocious. Meanwhile, the CDC definition of “fully vaccinated” has not changed yet (it will soon, guaranteed). I have heard that two doses of the Pfizer vaccine are only 30% effective against Omicron, and knowing how similar Moderna has been compared to Pfizer ever since initial efficacy data was released, I’d expect approximately that percentage to be announced in the coming days and weeks. A booster shot, however, gets your protection against Omicron right back up to between 70 - 75%: as protected as we once were with two doses against Delta.

Broadway’s full vaccination rules have not changed since the September reopening, and quite honestly, I think they will very soon. The next time the League extends mask mandates - most likely through the end of April - “fully vaccinated” should also mean boosted, for audience members and anyone / everyone working in a theatre. New York residents can now sign up for the NYS Excelsior Pass Plus, which shows proof of all three doses received.

There will still be breakthrough cases, I have no doubt, especially in the winter when COVID thrives in crowded indoor public spaces. Breakthroughs, however, will not be as concerning in the future as they are right now. The sad truth is that two-dose immunity has waned noticeably and there aren’t many people boosted at the moment.
In short, GET YOUR BOOSTER NOW! What was once a helpful tip has quickly become an urgent plea as Omicron is running buck wild around the world.

The Met just announced a booster mandate, starting January 17th.

I love the LabQ pop-up sites. They’re everywhere in midtown and they’re quick & convenient. I go to one like once a week these days just in case. Once you register at one you can take a screen grab of the QR code so you can just walk up, scan, swab, you’re usually on your way within five minutes or less. Ask them for a rapid and results are emailed to you within an hour. For a PCR it’s usually the next morning. You can get both at once just in case too.

RippedMan, there used to me more, some directly across from each other, but since there were so many, it's hard to tell if any weren't legit.

raddersons, Jordan - thanks so much for the tips! (Jordan, so sorry you tested positive.)

Slightly off topic, is the negative test instead of a vaccine card still in play? Or is that no more? Or did I completely make that up? I’m vaccinated so I have nothing to worry about. I’m just wondering since local theatres in PA have the test option.

Proof of vaccination and masks are required. As of last month members under 12 needed a negative rapid or PCR test done within specific times prior to the performance.

I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

What about adults? Can adults test instead of proof of vaccine? I knew about kids but for some reason I thought the test option also applied to adults.

I fully expect booster shots for all cast/crew/patrons to be required by January for Broadway theaters.

Agreed. I wouldn’t be surprised if the fully vaccinated definition is updated to include the booster shot soon.

Jordan, sorry you tested positive. I know you said you feel  fine (yay!), but I want to point out one weird side-effect you may be experiencing. You misspelled West Side Story as CODA. Hopefully, that specific symptom subsides pronto! Just kidding…sorta…lol.

Haven’t seen CODA yet, but watched The Power of The Dog last night. I liked it. It reminded me a bit of There Will Be Blood which I love. Still, WSS is my fave of the limited amount of movies I’ve seen so far this year.

But I digress. Back to our regular programming and (for Jordan) life outside your hotel room hopefully soon.

Yup same here! I get tested 2x a week despite still working from home. I usually go on a Thu and Mon since I tend to hangout with friends in the city during the weekend.

I noticed their vans are normally near transportation centers like Penn Station, Grand Central, Port Authority.

Found this interesting if not very encouraging:

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2021/12/omicron-is-about-to-overwhelm-us.html

I probably should’ve gone for the slightly more expensive hotel rate for my upcoming trip rather than the cheaper unrefundable rate I booked
