On the night of 9/11, the city's Department of Design and Construction needed light towers to illuminate the rescue site. When none could be found, someone had an idea: call Broadway. Within hours, the Belasco Theatre sent down its own stage lights, the same ones built for performances, to help rescue workers see through the night.
