I don't think the 2nd movie has damaged the brand. It didn't do as well as the first one, but it did just fine. The Wicked 2 promo tours received more publicity than the lackluster movie itself due to main cast physical appearance and interactions among themselves. People who still hadn't seen Wicked on Broadway before the movies, finally had and it looks like there's no fresh, untapped audience remained for this show. I'm pretty sure though it'll pick up during winter holidays, just like Book of Mormon always does.

The fact that Wicked will likely making sub $1 million in a few weeks sure is something, isn’t it?

Did Moulin Rouge have someone special come into the cast for its last days or is it just benefiting from people wanting to see it before it closes?

Agreed. I went to the national tour Sunday night and it was a ghost town - I would say 50% filled at best. I think they are going to have to think about these multi-week tour stops.

Why pay $100+ to see the Broadway production when there's a movie now available? Still no steady discount available and it's never been up at TKTS.

Yet, there's The Lion King.

In the end, nothing lasts forever, but 25 years is incredible nowadays.

The Lion King on stage is also a visual feast and offers something very different from the movie. It's also a beloved IP worldwide so appeals to tourists a lot. Oz, while popular around the world, is not in the same league.

Wicked also looks more dated with its staging, and the movie fleshed the world out more than the show does.

I remain amazed that Tom Felton is able to move the dial that much for Harry Potter.
