I would see him in the audience for many NY productions. For anyone who thinks they are too old to start a show business career he is an example of someone who did it with much success. RIP

Dennehy had a problematic habit of overstating his military record, including that he served in Vietnam when he didn't. I was surprised to see this omitted from many of his obituaries, including the New York Times.

Obituary is not the place for something like you mentioned. It is used for saying what you did in your life (career) and mentioning your loved ones.

"

Actually, you've confused an obituary with a tribute. An obituary that is written by a newspaper is a piece of reporting.

It is true that Dennehy stated:  "I lied about serving in Vietnam and I am sorry."  It is also true that he served his country 1958-1963 as a United States Marine.  He deserves honor and respect for that, and he gets it from this former United States Navy Sailor.

No, you are confused. Obituary for newspaper is written by funeral home or somebody acting in behalf (usually family member) of the deceased. In other words, they will not include something that is not complimentary to the deceased.

A bit tangential, but does anyone have the recording of his Salesman? I know one exists, since my high school teacher showed us the VHS when we covered the play, but I haven't been able to find any options online. It was, as others have observed, utterly brilliant - superior to the 2012 revival, though that one too starred a now- departed legend.

I know you. I know you. I know you.
