Bat Boy transfer being teased

Could it just be a teaser for the album?

Feels unwise to move it to Broadway or even commercial off Broadway. But ATG is producing so they can kind of do what they want.

I don't think they would utilize a unique and otherwise unused IG account created in 2022 just for a cast album. Also it's been commented on by Creative Goods and shared by some marketing folks from AKA.

This would bomb if it transferred to Broadway.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

The production was too polished. Even the metal cage looked too strong and sturdy. It’s supposed to be a makeshift wooden cage they throw him in. A community theater production of Bat Boy I saw a couple years ago in a dingy broke down space with non professional actors was absolute chaos/perfection for a show like this. The city center production also missed the mark on the campy quality of the show. It’s one of the few musicals that is truly better in an underground environment.

Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but didn't this show have hard time selling tickets? It was on TDF throughout its entire run. The premise of the show sounded really weird so I didn't see it.

The only reason I imagine this would transfer is to market it for broader licensing along with an album. But I agree on paper this is a solidly horrible idea. Maybe they go to NWS?

Commercial Broadway? Yikes.

O'Keefe made a bunch of changes for this production, nearly all for the worse. Really wish they'd revert back to the original for this.

So excited! When I first started getting into musicals in 2008 there was a local production of Bat Boy that really impacted me and it has been a favorite of mine since! And I have met people that claim to know musicals that have never heard of Bat Boy but it coming to Broadway will fix that! And if Kerry Butler is in the cast it will be such a treat! Taylor Trensch was also so perfect for the role!

I don’t know why y’all act like it’s your money they are spending. As a musical theatre fan you should be geeked that Bat Boy may come to Broadway after all of these years!

I loved the Original Off Broadway Cast at the Union Sq. Theater in 2001.

Bat Boy transfer being teased

I saw Bat Boy at the then fledgling Speakeasy Stage in Boston in 2002, in a tiny, funky space that barely seated over 100 people. Word of mouth made it a huge hit, and it was extended a number of times, well into 2003. The stars were a recent Emerson College grad named Miguel Cervantes (Hamilton) as Bat Boy, and 18 year old Sara Chase as Shelley. I felt like the venue was perfect and it is hard for me to imagine it in a more conventional Broadway setting,

This is destined to lose its entire investment… but hey it’s not my money. Can’t wait to catch this again if it indeed transfers.

This production was awesome! Miguel was perfect. So glad I'm not the only one who remembers.

I have a feeling this tease is for a commercial Off-Broadway run? Everyone naturally assumes Broadway, but the musical really is most well-suited for a extremely intimate space.

Incorrect. It’s going into the theatre where Six currently resides. They will be vacating soon. Told by a trustworthy source.

Six DID just remove from sale all dates after January 3rd. It was previously on sale at least into February.

Listen, do I think it will make money? No. Am I delighted because I'll get a chance to see it again? 100%. Please let producers NEVER make decisions only based on the safest bets. That would get us only boring theater.

Hopefully not. She, sadly, wasn't right and you couldn't understand a thing she said.

No. By the end of the 2nd week the shows were sold out. Word was getting out.

Re: Bat Boy transfer being teased

Hope Butler is replaced. Would prefer a Kritzer, Simard etc in this role. Butler still sounded like a little girl trying to sing a role bigger than her - the comedy timing suffered as well. Wouldn't mind replacement for Shelly & the Reverend as well. With a transfer later than the initial run, hoping they see more people for all roles.

Re: Bat Boy transfer being teased

Jfc who spit in all your bean curd? It's wild that this seems to be happening but it's probably to give it new life in licensing, they know it's not gonna be a financial bonanza. The Encores! was real fun, seeing Kerry Butler graduate to the mom was a treasure and she was hilarious in the part, some of the new stuff worked and some didn't, but seeing as nearly everything new lately has been illiterate tuneless generic slop, welcome back Bat Boy, I'm more than glad to hold you.
