Aw, that would be awesome! I would totally use that as a threat to my kids. "If you're bad, I'll let the Childcatcher come to our house!"

Two things...

Last week at Doubt they had signed posters and all of the members of the cast were standing outside near the doors to get donations - it was fun to see all of them up close and personal, and to know that they took the time to take donations themselves.

Second, last year when i went to see La Cage they had an auction for one of the boas that was used. There were two groups bidding against each other and it kept going higher and higher. To keep the bidding going they kept adding things. In the end, two groups paid $1,000 each to get half of the boa, a champagne toast backstage and a kiss from Gary Beach. The crowd was going nuts by the end since the bids were so high. One interesting thing was that it was about a day before Daniel left and while the whole cast was on stage for the bidding, he was the only one not there....

Anyone know how much they were selling the Doubt posters for after the show.

I could be wrong, but I don't think they were selling Doubt posters at the show I was at, but they were selling playbills signed by all cast members for $20. I would figure a poster would be pricer than a playbill, so maybe $25 or $30?

I was at Wicked on Sunday and Megan Hilty made the speech. They're selling the Carols for a Cure CD ($20), a Wicked cookbook ($20 or $25 i forget), a Wicked cooking apron that says :Wicked Good Cook ($25), cast signed poster ($75), individually signed photos of each main cast member ($25 each), and something else which is $5 but it seems to be eluding me at this moment.

Do shows which will officially open during the BC/EFA GYPSY campaign participate later on? I am interested to know if THE WOMAN IN WHITE will eventually get involved albeit for a short period of time.

I have attended only one show ( several times) during GYPSY campaign time - THE BOY FROM OZ in 2003. That was absolutely hilarious as they tried to sell every little piece of Hugh -- from his t-shirt ( with his DNA)to his towel ( with his DNA) to a photo onstage to a kiss to a...Michael Mulheren drew the line here re: BCEFA after-the-show Pleas....

It's fun to watch even if one's resources do not allow one to bid aggressively. I remember reading about one lady from overseas who after bidding $ 2000 for the t-shirt begged the audience "to please don't bid anymore as that is all I can afford"...She won re: BCEFA after-the-show Pleas

Did the DRS lotto again this Wed afternoon matinee (I know! I have a lotto problem, I am seeking help), and there were even less people than last week- in fact the box office pretty much had *all* the box seats left when I got there at 11:59am, and even let me have a seat in box BB on request. (And I completely have a crush on Norbert Leo Butz. But that's all for another thread.)

Anyway, they did the after the show plea this time. Norbert did the plea, explaining BC/EFA (with a special mention of BC/EFA's breast cancer program), and they had all sorts of stuff for sale:
- red BC/EFA bracelet (rubber Livestrong type), says "Make a Difference," $2
- signed playbills, $10
- pic of just John, signed, or pic of both John and Norbert, signed, $10 each (there might've been one of just Norbert, signed, but I'm not sure)
- shirt with DRS logo on the front, red ribbon on the back, $15 (?)
- three different posters: the regular poster, signed, and then the Vespa poster, either signed or unsigned. The regular poster signed was $100, but I don't remember the prices on the two different Vespa posters (something like $20 unsigned, $40 signed maybe?)
- the coolest thing: John Lithgow did a drawing of the cast on opening night (Norbert called it a 'Lithgowgraph'), and you could get it on either a tshirt with the cast names listed under it, or as a print signed by John, for $20 each.

That's what my new icon pic is, the print- the print is actually red ink, black sig, on white cardstock, my pda just takes a crappy photo is all. :)

I think that was all the fun stuff!

Saw Phantom last night - Howard made the plea, spoke about the background of the BC/EFA, also mentioned the cancer program as well. They were also selling the Carols for a Cure CD and the Fabulous Phantoms CD, both $20, a signed Phantom poster for $40, the red AIDS ribbon pin with the Phantom mask and the pink breast cancer ribbon pin (also with the Phantom mask) for $10, and the Phantom cookbook, also for $10.

Hmmm... I was at DRS and Sweeney Todd recently, and neither made the pleas.

I'll have to read back through the thread to see which shows are participating.

edit - Sweeney is still in Previews, so not participating. I'll be curious to hear if they do once they've opened. Am curious about DRS, though.

Yes, they had those last time too except I think Mr. Lithgow wrote the date of opening night on it as well (don't have mine on me at the moment). Sounds like a lot of the same stuff they were selling at the flea market....I did like those shirts so I think I may have to go pick a couple up.

I saw Wicked in Chicago yesterday, and while I didn't hear anything about selling items, Ana stood and talked about what BCEFA strives to do and the cast members were standing around the lobby after the show with Halloween buckets asking for donations.

Won the Wicked lotto tonight 11/4 (and I am really, really sorry that I did not listen to those who said wait until after January to see it again, but that is for another thread), and besides the cool stuff for sale they also did a live auction, which was bidding on "The Ultimate Wicked Experience" or something like that, consisted of:

- a walk on role in act one, and you get to bow during the curtain call
- a wardrobe fitting, and makeup (and hair too, I think?)
- you attend practice with the cast and the dance captain the day of your walk on
- 2 tix for your friends/family to come see the show the night you're on stage
- a backstage tour
- photos of you in wardrobe/makeup with the cast
- photos of your backstage tour
- "Defying Gravity" sheet music signed by Schwartz and the cast
I think there might've been even more to it, but that's as much as I remember.

So bidding started at $2,000. They got up to $13,000 (nope, not a typo: thirteen. thousand.) and couldn't get anyone to go up to $14,000, so they offered to sell another second package if anyone matched $13,000. TWO people matched, so they sold three packages for $13,000 each.

This was the first time I'd been at a live auction during this time of year. It seemed like an insane amount of money to me, but is this what people usually pay for this, or has anyone been at an auction in past years where people paid more than this for this type of thing?

Walk-on parts for THE BOY FROM OZ fetched $ 20,000 each; there were two winners and they contributed a total of $ 40,000.

The highest bid for a t-shirt was $ 7500 - won by John Travolta when he attended the show. Brendan Fraser also won a signed pumpkin and he donated a four-digit figure for it. They sold an awful lot of t-shirts and towels and photo ops during the GYPSY competition, which is why their record of $ 633,000 has not been matched to-date.

$20,000? Wow- that is awesome!!
Well in that case nevermind then, the Wicked walkons weren't as huge as I thought they were. :)

I had a good friend who worked with Patti Lupone in NOISES OFF (and loved her, btw- said she was a 'gem'the whole run) and this is what i know.

She supports collection for BCEFA (and raises a lot of money for them on her own time as well), but she feels soliciting from the STAGE by the actors is too jarring for the audience's experience. She has no problem with actors, volunteers, etc soliciting from anywhere else in the house (the back, the stage door, lobby, etc), just not from the stage which is understandably a 'sacred space' for her (and many other leading actors who are well known for sharing this same philosophy). It's more about protecting the audience from having their 'theatrical' bubble burst, than anything else (money, overtime, etc).

mu understanding is also that if others want to solicit from the stage, she doesn't deny them that opportunity (as a principle others have been known to do this, actually)- she only asks that one actor remain onstage to represent the company so that people will not misinterperet why some of the other actors are leaving the stage. Because walking into the wings could be seen as a 'protest' against soliciting for the cause itself- but in reality, it is only an actor choosing to not participate in that form of soliciting (from the stage).

So that's all i know, second hand of course- but i'm pretty sure it's accurate.

btw- the overtime is yes applied to crew- not actors, as it is voluntary. But one always hopes that indeed the crew volunteers their time as well and there is no overtime incurred.

wow- Holy Rent threads Batman!!

Anyway... I spent Thanksgiving night at Spelling Bee, and besides their usual BCEFA items (signed kick boards, posters, etc.), they had a live auction (the cast was saying it was their first one ever?). One of the crew guys took some of the kick boards and created this reindeer (it looked sort of like this, with the basket shaped back: http://gourmettreatgifts.tripod.com/id7.html (scroll down, last item)
but without stuff in it. And it was way cuter. :)), that the whole cast signed, the bidding started at $100 and the woman who won it won with a bid of $1,000- she got the deer, and the cast was totally sweet and brought her down on stage, and took her backstage too.
