To be honest, I think this has a lot to do with pandemic fatigue in general. I don't mean this in any kind of anti-vax conspiracy way, but it just feels like things aren't adding up with these rules. Like I have to wait extra time to leave work so I, somebody regularly PCR tested for work, don't encounter others backstage and potentially infect them, for them to immediately potentially be infected at the stage door by random patrons. It's confusing that some venues require masks and some don't, because wasn't this what the vaccine was supposed to prevent? If we're all vaccinated in the theatre, who are we protecting by wearing masks? I want things to be as safe as possible and I sure as hell want the theaters to stay open because I love my job. But this is all confusing and frustrating, and then to see patrons essentially allowed to do what they want and negate all the rules we follow? A bit infuriating. Seems like the rules are being randomly made up.

Almost everyone I know had covid, myself included. I know two people who were on ventilators. I'm sure I am not along on this board in that regard. What's your point?

Again, with all due respect, what are you talking about? You seem to be confounding the vaccinated and the unvaccinated. I am pretty confident that everyone with whom you are communicating in this thread is vaccinated, and live in zipcodes like mine in which almost 100% of the population is vaccinated. So now of us need to "stay home," and all of us are doing EXACTLY what the extant protocols call for. You seem to have missed the point that vaccinated people are indeed not a risk of serious illness and thus it is now more akin to the common cold, even with the variants. That was the whole point of getting everyone vaccinated.

Huh? Who here is saying that? Once again, what are you talking about?
Re shows that closed due to covid: (1) No, not here. (2) Those closures were because of cross-infections not because of people standing on the street. People are going to test positive occasionally, and that's why there are protocols in place. The procedures in place were not causually adopted. Experts have guided this every step of the way.

Love, I have worked in a doctor's office the ENTIRE pandemic with doctors who run the ICU who watched people die indiscriminately for a year. What you eventually have to come to realize is it's not going anywhere. We are in much better spots now than we were 12 months ago. We have vaccines. We have actual treatments that save people from hospitalization. What I'm not going to do is continue to act like this is a Boogeyman hanging on my back for the next 3+ years. The virus isn't my personality as some have made it. I take COMMON SENSE precautions, and I live life.

Exactly this honestly. You can't mandate the vaccine for employment when we've spent over a year telling people Masks were a good mitigation tool for the virus. Especially an N95 mask. What exactly do you think you're going to accomplish? Make life annoying for not getting a vaccine. Make it difficult. That's how you get people vaccinated. It's very simple. NYC has the write idea. Require it for admission almost... Everywhere!

Seriously? Outside allows for free flow of air up and away from people. It is historically known that airborne Illness is far harder to spread outside than it is inside where the air is just going to circulate the room.

Stroll back to posts 23 and 24 above and see if that helps you out some.
BTW, there is another reason for those backstage protocols: actors are precious commodities and extra efforts are deemed appropriate in the (usually on Broadway) cramped, confined backstage space that has notoriously poor ventilation in halls, passages, and the like.

I just wanted to make sure that's what they were trying to say, and not just assume. And I understand that, obviously the possibility of getting infected outside is much lower. Please understand, my gripe here isn't that I have to leave work a little later, it's that it just doesn't make sense to me. The chances of someone getting infected from any other employees in the theater is nearly impossible considering we're all PCR tested. We all have to follow the same standards as the actors. So even though the virus spreads more inside, the virus isn't inside in the first place.

@soul maybe it is indeed overkill, but it is part of the negotiated agreement with AEA and as I said productions have a very keen interest in going overboard in protecting the integrity of their business. You may recall that the earlier iteration of that agreement had far more draconian requirements.

Springsteen fans, dealers, and show attendees were at the SD pre and post show with it spilling into and across the street. He signed nothing, but he would face fans on both sides of the barriers to pose for a pic. He'd even stand on the running board of his SUV to wave at folks across the street.
Security set up the barriers about 8-10 ft back from SD. Whenever I walked by, I'd warn folks lining up as early as 2pm that he wouldn't sign. Security sent mixed messages. Some would confirm only a pic opportunity could be had while another guard would not comment. One guard said it wasn't his job to speak on behalf of the talent's willingness to sign.
It's a public street. Management can only wall off the area with barriers. I'd be curious if fans at all shows followed the actors walking down the street.

Guess we'll learn more details re: Carmines from the Oct 1 hearing. News now reporting women displayed vax cards but male companions who arrived later did not have theirs so they all chose to leave when the fight started. The oldest a businesswoman with an educational doctorate. Carmines likely has restaurant video to supplement cel video.
This chore should not fall on a host/hostess. Carmines finally getting security. Servers at Juniors told me they've gotten flak at the outdoor tables.

Even without any security cam video, the cellphone video pretty clearly contradicts that story.

Fair question! Hmm. Neither situation is ideal, but the bar-there could be a choice where the restaurant has outdoor seating? You can control what happens at the restaurant a bit more than the stagedoor…you can say not to stay at the stagedoor but there will still be people who won’t listen…so…I’d say a stagedoor is worse

@hearthemsing22 The problem with not "dragging this out" is that you are conveying misinformation and when others don't correct that, still others will read it, think it is correct, act on it, and pass it on to others.
Can you answer one other question? For whom are you so concerned? The actors? Or the people who choose to stand on the street and gawk at them from a distance?
