In the past, were there any other shows like Maybe Happy Ending that hadpoor advance ticket sales but after opening night and strong word of mouth, ti

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/22/24

I wonder if BTTF starting their tour early is eating into their Broadway sales.  I don't remember the exact timing but I think they announced tour dates fairly soon after Broadway performances started so people may have decided to just wait for the tour to come to them (and outside of the last bit in the finale it doesn't seem like the tour is all that scaled down)

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/22/24

Tough week all around but especially rough for Back to the Future and Water for Elephants playing to particularly low capacities.  A decent start for Our Town, but it's certainly not the event that something like McNeal is, despite all the names they tried to pack in.  Cabaret seems to be coming down a bit too but I'm curious to see if the new cast will gain traction (word of mouth seems to prefer Adam Lambert so it's possible this could pick up).

Still impressive

The live auction was definitely done by 6pm as well.  I guess maybe if they think it'll run long then they could say 7pm, but IMO there should be a note that tables will be shutting down by 6pm

I found around 3-5pm to be a sweet spot for me, though I'm mostly looking for playbills and not any of the special items.  Crowds were better once the shows on 45 started (and before stage dooring happened after shows), and I think the morning rush had left, while some tables were already starting to do deals.

What bothers me the most is that they advertise that the flea runs until 7pm but many tables start packing up around 5.  I'd understand if some tables want to l

Really enjoyed this tonight, which I was surprised by considering how Ferryman didn't leave much of an impression on me (though to be fair I was having a tough time following along with the accents and excess of characters), and I especially found this much more accessible.  I loved how deceptively simple it was but just thinking about the different feelings and motivations of the characters will probably carry me for a while--I think it would be really interesting to read because I

Musical adaptation of film SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED from Nick Blaemire and Ryan Miller (Guster) to premiere at BAM

I generally agree with all the other posters, though I didn't come out feeling quite as negative.  The show isn't good but it's a bit inoffensive (and maybe that's because I had no familiarity with the movie so I was still a little invested for the plot) and it was worth it for the TDF price I paid.

I liked the *sound* of the score (though I do usually like a rock sound overall), but none of the songs really had melodies that would make any of them notable or

I now know what the sketch entails, but I am curious to know what people thought of it.

I thought they'd mine the BTTF bit a little more since there's a lot they could've gotten into, but the choreography really got me because it was so accurate.<

I'd go for front balcony (like rows A-D ish) over rear mezz (rows H-M).  Anything behind that in the balcony I'd say is a toss up though.

Pretty similar story, I think I first came across the message boards looking for rush info but stayed because it's a community of theater people who often can have really interesting discussions or talk about lesser-known shows (my friends are theater fans but only really interested in the big Broadway shows). Despite everything else, I really have learned a lot on here.

I mean correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't this happen all the time with people saying they're working on a new show?  And FWIW t

fwiw Hills of California was also doing Broadway Week in their first week so the grosses may be higher next week.  But it's also included in MTC's subscription so their numbers would probably be slightly off from that of a commercial run anyway.

The thing is, I don't know how much they're making it clear what the relation to the show is if you ask a random person.  Like I know it's a prequel of sorts because I've been following the show's reviews and everything from London, but I don't know if a regular person would assume it's an

I was a little surprised to see that there wasn't a thread about this show already (considering the BAM production was apparently sold out), as I think it's an interesting one to talk about.

I saw this on Thursday and didn't really remember what it was about when I walked in (other than having a vague recollection that it had to do with the Holocaust), so it took me a while to realize it was set in Poland (and I also hadn't really had much prior knowledge of the conflic

This has really been great for me!  I'm not as used to the faster tempo of the opening waltz and I agree with the review that I wouldn't have minded some more rubato, but it's fantastic to hear all the different parts with the original orchestrations come out.  I thought the mixing was fantastic, especially in the instrumental sections, as it seemed particularly well balanced between all the different instrument lines.  The vocals are probably a bit lower than most
