re: Father Daughter Duets
 Mar 20 2007, 02:03:51 PM
How about THE FIRST MAN YOU REMEMBER from ASPECTS OF LOVE? Not a deep song by any means, but it works quite well in the show as a father/daughter thing. Out of context it works well in a variety of settings too. It's cute and catchy too.
west end shows that would never make it on broadway, and vice-versa.

JERRY is absolutely going to be making its' US debut in Chicago over the summer and then in Minneapolis this fall.

Really, JERRY - the tv show - isn't as popular as it was (it was even starting to decline in prominence when the London production was running), so I can't imagine it being successful in a large venue where running expenses are high. However, the two smaller companies planning productions this year will have great success with it.

As for the "religious right" and a

At Sweeney Todd last Thursday evening, DURING INTERMISSION:

"I hope this doesn't end like that Willie Nelson thing."

Did Willie Nelson ever have a bout of cannibalism that I was unaware of?

He will be in the tour of Twelve Angry Men, which I believe is going to be kicking off this fall.

Ordway has mounted several large-scale productions in the past and will no doubt do so again. The theatre mounts, on a continual basis, smaller shows - normally housed in the McKnight space. But, in the past, the larger musicals are in the main hall. Seeing as Kevin McCollum, one of the lead producers of RENT and AVENUE Q, is (or was very recently) a head honcho @ Ordway, it's no surprise that numerous productions have been mounted by the theatre and the performance schedule is packed with fabul

Finally an age-appropriate casting choice! I'm so sick of all these young, immature actresses playing these roles.

I might also offer the following for consideration:

Elphaba - Carol Channing, Liza Minnelli
Glinda - Angela Lansbury, Barbara Cook

Clearly, Julia Roberts should be the next in line for either role. Actually, if I had my druthers, she would do both roles in repertory with Melanie Griffith. Sheer heaven!

Madeline Kahn did play Dolly in Atlanta, Theatre of the Stars, 1992. Wish I had seen that one... I'll bet she was fantastic.
Damn The Courier, Full Speed Ahead!
 Mar 10 2006, 03:53:39 PM
I played the dickhead - I don't remember his name - one of the three from Delaware... I was 16, being by far the youngest in a company of 30-60 somethings. The courier was played by somebody in their early thirties (even though he looked 35 at best). Even though my audition was one of my best ever and I really wanted the courier (I have since retired from performing), I don't regret not getting the role. I had a blast and there was far less pressure. Granted Lee is a larger role, but you still g

re: 'Take Me Or Leave Me' REMIXES

Well, like it or not, it is a way to expose showtunes to people who would not normally listen to them. I know at least two people who tracked down the RENT soundtrack after hearing the 'Seasons Of Love' remixes.

I have yet to hear a remixed showtune that is as good as the original version - but it's a good starting point to expose a new audience to them. And no publicity is really bad publicity, right?

'Take Me Or Leave Me' REMIXES

Idina Menzel & Tracie Thoms' "Take Me Or Leave Me" has been remixed by Tracy Young & Gabriel D. Vine! The mixes have just been promo'd to dj's. Support this record & the RENT movie by requesting it whenever possible!
re: If Alice Ripley was to ever return to Broadway...

Alice already did TOMMY... I believe she was an understudy for Mrs. Walker & then got bumped up later. I did see it with her understudying for sure and it was nothing short of phenomenal!

Personally, I'd love to see Alice do EVITA. She'd be great.

Saw this in Mpls last weekend. It was absolutely brilliant. I didn't know what to expect, and I came out beyond suprised. The use of movement was beyond amazing - I can't think of the last time I got so much information about character, etc. without a single word being said. Just incredible. Highly recommended if it gets to your town.

And yes, it's extremely homoerotic. Surprisingly, nobody left or even chuckled (that I was aware of)... I was very impressed.

FYI... The Freemasons & Dave Hernandez mixes of "In My Mind" are available @ iTunes. Should hit #1 on Billboard Dance with Freemasons onboard, although nothing is guaranteed.

Karmine Alers - Out Tonight

Received a promo cd of the remixes for this. Not bad, although they could have been much better. Her vocals are well used and the dance mix has great radio potential, although it is a tad cheesy. The Sin Morera mix sounds under-produced and contrived, but it's still nice to think it might possibly get club play. I would like to see the label turn out some more mixes for this, perhaps with more quality remixers behind the wheel. It also would be nice if Airgo would release the acappella (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

CD promo includes: Sin Morera Rent Control Club Mix (9:32) and Dance Mix (4:27)

Buy the short Dance Mix online: http://www.airgomusic.com/

On a similar note, Seasons Of Love also has a Monkey Bars Club Mix (7:19) by Gabriel D. Vine. I had not heard this until this past weekend. This mix is actually my favorite so far. I appreciate his incorporation of the original chord structure. Not nearly as dark as the other mixes.
