The reason Stephanie Mills should have been in The Wiz movie.
 Jul 8 2011, 10:04:13 PM
I actually finished watching the movie last night, and I have to say that Diana's version of Home really wasn't as dreadful as I expected and I was surprised at the way she belted some of those notes, as shaky as they may have been at first. Still, Stephanie's version is just Earth shattering and I consider it quite a Tony snub, same as Chita Rivera not being nominated for West Side Story. If they ever revive The Wiz, I hope they'll find a fresh new face to play Dorothy, I feel like Home present

This NEVER fails to give me chills. The audience cheering is just thrilling, I can't even imagine what it must have been like to see this live. Was she a bad actress? I can't esee why she wasn't even nominated for a Tony.

BTW, not sure how to make a link clickable. Sorry!

Imagining past shows that've played the theatre you're currently seeing a show in
 Jul 4 2011, 01:00:28 AM
Sorry for the wordy subject heading. But when I recently saw Sister Act, for example, at some points in the evening I was picturing Patti Lupone onstage belting her heart out during Evita, as Evita played at the Broadway Theatre 30 years ago, where Sister Act is currently playing. I did the same during Catch Me if you Can, picturing Hairspray being performed (and missing it...I was bored to tears during Catch Me.) At Memphis I would picture the original cast of A Chorus Line lined up across the

SISTER ACT Reviews
 Jul 4 2011, 12:41:59 AM
I saw it the first Saturday after the Tonys and loved it! I thought it was great fun. It was flashy, fluffy, glitzy, and very funny, which was pretty much what I expected. Patina Miller was incredible, in my opinion. Her voice was stellar, she was hysterical and just had so much energy, I think she's gonna do very well on Broadway in the future. I'd never seen Victoria Clark in anything before this show (minus her excellent performance at Sondheim's 80th birthday concert) and thought she was won
Most Disastrous Performances?

The part in Catch Me If You Can where the curtain goes up and the show ends 2 1/2 hours later.

and was Sherie Renee Scott really booed in Rent? I wasn't aware she was in that show, whats the story behind that one?

Evita Recordings
 May 12 2011, 02:25:47 AM
The Broadway cast recording with Patti and Mandy will always be my favorite. My first real introduction to Evita was the clip of "A New Argentina" from the Tony Awards. I got the Broadway's Lost Treasures boxset one year for my birthday and I remember being glued to the screen when Patti belted "He supports you..." I had never heard anything like it. I love the overall sound and feel of the Broadway recording as well, as well as the fact that they recorded the Casa Rosada scene right before "Arg
What was wrong with the West Side Story revival?
 May 11 2011, 01:47:18 AM
I loved the revival, I think mainly because of the sheer showmanship of it all. Karen Olivo may not have dance technique, but she can move and has a certain spark when she dances. You can have perfect technique but if you don't have a spark when you dance, I'm not going to care. And she made me care. "America" is my favorite piece of choreography from a show, so I guess I went into it pretty biased. God I wish there were video footage of Chita doing it when she was in the show. (Didn't there use
Most uncomfortable theater..on Broadway
 May 7 2011, 02:22:06 AM
Being an exceptionally tall theatre lover kinda sucks. Not only does the seating feel cramped half the time, I'm constantly worried that I'm blocking the view for the person behind me. I remember feeling particularly cramped when I saw West Side Story in the Palace mezzanine. I do recall feeling very comfy in the St. James, but then again I was front row watching Patti do Rose's Turn when a small bead of her fabulous diva saliva landed on my hand. Carol Channing could have performed The Circle o
The opposite gender role of your dreams
 May 7 2011, 02:12:49 AM
A few friends and i were talking about this at school the other day. When i think of my favorite theatre characters, I realize that they are all female parts and it sucks knowing I'll never play either one. Unless I become a big drag queen. But i digress. I would absolutely love to play Evita, which, to me, is probably the flashiest, fiercest diva part in theatre (other than Rose, of course). Her speech on the Casa Rosada after Argentina is one of my favorite moments from any show. Anita in WSS
YOUR FIRST ROLE IN A MUSICAL
 Apr 26 2011, 09:55:13 PM
Agwe in Once on This Island. Not only my first lead, but my favorite of the shows I've been in. The story is so simple yet so touching and the music is just infectious. The production itself was very tight and wonderfully cast as well. I loved singing "Rain" every night, its such an intense song and really sets the story into motion. "Pray" was a highlight each night, there was a huge tribal drum in the center of the stage with Ti Moune and Daniel on it, with the Gods and some of the ensemble ci
Burlesque reviews thread

I went and saw Burlesque last night, and as a gay man I knew I would enjoy it for the most part. But I had NO IDEA how FANTASTIC it would be!! I really can't remember the last time I was so entertained with a movie! What most people need to understand is that this movie is not the next great American cinema classic, nor does it try to be. What it aims to be is pure entertaining fun, and MAN DOES IT DELIVER! From the opening scene with Christina singing alone in the diner I knew we were all in

Nicole Scherzinger as Anita in WSS
 Aug 12 2010, 04:18:54 PM
After seeing the clips of Nicole in Rent, does anyone else think she'd make a fantastic Anita? Shes a fierce dancer, she's got a great voice, and I think she'd act the hell out of it and would be wonderful in the part.
