Musical adaptation of film SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED from Nick Blaemire and Ryan Miller (Guster) to premiere at BAM
 Sep 20 2024, 01:45:33 PM

I was on the fence about purchasing tickets and then I was reminded that one of the authors wrote Glory Days, the horrific/boring Broadway musical that closed on opening night about 14 years ago... so that's a hard pass for me and based on what some other people have reported in this thread, I am very glad I am skipping this.

TAMMY FAYE will transfer to Broadway in 2024-2025 Season
 Sep 3 2024, 05:41:32 PM

I would be interested to see how this plays from the mezzanine or balcony. I saw this in London at the Almedia, which seats 325 people. I know they're upscaling everything for a bigger Broadway house and hopefully that will make a difference for people sitting in those areas.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/1/24

Supposedly it's The Motive and the Cue. They are waiting to announce until Suffs posts a closing notice.

THE NOTEBOOK to Close on Broadway on December 15, 2024
 Aug 30 2024, 11:59:00 AM

While closing before the end of the year might seem odd remember that during the holiday weeks Broadway shows play adjusted schedules with added performances, this means overtime for the crew and cast which adds to the running costs, that probably factored in choosing the closing date.

Wicked - Current Cast with Donna McKechnie?
 Aug 27 2024, 06:06:06 AM

I agree with the other comments. She's fine, she's not amazing and she's not horrible. It is not a memorable performance. Seeing a Broadway legend in person is always a thrilling experience but in this case, I don't think it's worth going back and seeing it again. I saw her performance a couple of months into her run and was disappointed. I went back and saw the show with some family members a couple of weeks ago and she was out.

THE LEHMAN TRILOGY Returning to Broadway This Fall?
 Jun 23 2024, 10:16:45 PM

The show is returning to the West End for a limited engagement starting in late September so they had the right date but the wrong country.

Sam Mendes to direct new Jack Thorne-penned play about the Richard Burton/John Gielgud 'Hamlet'

They want The Music Box, they're waiting for Suffs to close.

FOLLIES at Carnegie Hall
 Jun 21 2024, 11:21:04 AM

They dropped the ball in the first five minutes when they didn't perform the entire original overture.

It's 92° with 51% humidity, you can wear shorts.

There is no official dress code at Carnegie Hall. And once it gets over 90° dress code gets thrown out the window.

LEMPICKA to release original Broadway cast recording in May
 Jun 7 2024, 06:20:24 PM

One of Lempicka's producers was a contestant on Jeopardy last night. He came across as a smug entitled twit. He didn't win. Perhaps they were going to use that money to release the cast album?

MOTHER PLAY Opening Night Critics’ Reviews
 May 26 2024, 01:17:20 PM

That's too bad. I hope she's feeling better soon.
It's interesting that they've chosen to cancel the performances rather than put the understudy on. I wonder if it is a smart concession on their part knowing that they would have to process hundreds of return tickets anyway.

How is Jinkx Monsoon as Audrey.
 May 25 2024, 11:05:34 AM

I'm fascinated by the fact that people are arguing over someone's performance being "too campy" or "too over the top" in a musical about a plant that eats humans! This is not King Lear.

What is the worst production you have ever seen on Broadway? What is the worst show?

Article: OPERATION MINCEMEAT... plots its course to New York

  • The figures in that WhatsOnStage article are not verified. It may be that the show cost more than $2 mil pounds in London and/or will cost less than $14 mil in New York. Every capitalization has a minimum and a maximum, and sometimes they don't need to raise the max. Exchange rate alone adds minimum 25% to the London capitalization, plus major differences in union/labor/ad costs.

The original cast will play their final performance on Saturday. Most people have been assuming that they would be announcing the new West End cast along with the fact that the original cast will be transferring to Broadway, but it's already Wednesday and that announcement has not come.
as a British expat who's lived in New York for over 20 years I can't really gauge whether or not this show is too British for American audiences, but if this does transfer to Broadway, it'

R+J revival- which theatre?
 May 2 2024, 04:17:29 PM

There is a way to get into CITS from the lobby of the Paramount building on W. 50th St. but you have to have employee credentials and/or a key. So technically that can be used to get people in and out without having to go through the lobby of the theater. When this production of R+J was announced a few weeks ago it did say that it was going into CITS, I know this because the folks at Wicked were having to have a conversation about how the stage door crowds from that production we're

Des McAnuff will direct Cash bio-musical, THE BALLAD OF JOHNNY AND JUNE, at La Jolla (May-July 2024)
 Apr 25 2024, 06:10:53 PM

Christopher Ryan Grant was a Johnny Cash understudy in Million Dollar Quartet on Broadway. I happened to be at one of the performances where he went on and he was atrociously bad. Hopefully in the past 14 years since then his Johnny Cash impersonation has gotten better.

FOLLIES at Carnegie Hall

I was able to snag a couple of tickets. I'm so excited. I chose the mobile ticket delivery option. When I go into the confirmation email, there's a big red square that says: get tickets. But when I click on it, it just comes up as seat locations, there is no QR code. Is there supposed to be a QR code? Will that come later? I've never done mobile ticket delivery through Carnegie Hall so I'm not quite sure how it works there.
