The name on everybody’s lips is apparently not Alyssa Milano. Yikes

GHOST OF JOHN MCCAIN at Soho Playhouse
 Sep 24 2024, 08:32:43 AM

Saw this on Saturday. It’s basically an extended SNL sketch with a cast of Broadway all-stars and a hint of Shaw’s “Don Juan In Hell”.

There is quite a bit of shock value for sure and some is laugh out loud funny, while others are rather cringe. The music is tuneful, but again, nothing greater than what you’d find in one of the John Mulaney musical sketches on SNL.

I will say Jason Tam is giving a surprisingly earnest and poignant perfor

Adrian Bailey (Jelly’s Last Jam, The Little Mermaid) passed away

I made the change. I read another article where I thought I saw a stagehand was responsible, but I could’ve been mistaken

Adrian Bailey (Jelly’s Last Jam, The Little Mermaid) passed away
 Sep 23 2024, 03:07:45 PM

Adrian Bailey, known for an over 30 year stage career from 1976 to 2008, has passed away at the age of 67.

His long career was, unfortunately, curtailed by an incident during The Little Mermaid when an open trap door, caused him to fall 30 feet and become severely injured.

But how do the small-time street fair vendors do it then? They have full on trucks and cooking equipment and vans full of stuff - unless those are subsidized by the city

I always carry cash and negotiate price. If you make an offer  that’s not obscenely low (like $1 for a $20 item), they will work with you sometimes.

Whatever they don’t sell ends up back at the theatre or in the trash, so depending on the table, they will take the money happily.

Musical adaptation of film SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED from Nick Blaemire and Ryan Miller (Guster) to premiere at BAM
 Sep 21 2024, 10:20:29 PM

I just left and…honestly I’m not sure what I saw.

I have to agree that the indie rock sound made for a great score, but it lyrically did not attach itself to the material and seemed to be radio-ready as opposed to advancing plot (a pet peeve of mine). Also, the sound design was not at all helpful. I was directly first row by the actors and I could hear lags and cutting out of the microphones and, even being just a tiny barrier from them, couldn’t make out some of the

Playbill Ceases Operations for Touring Productions
 Sep 19 2024, 09:24:05 PM

I didn’t know this was a thing, but my friend just sent me a picture from the BTTF tour in Minneapolis and apparently Playbill no longer does national distribution and so local brands will be taking over.

Audra McDonald-led GYPSY for 2024-2025 Season!

A friend of mine close to the production team was telling me that they were trying to court Paul Giamatti, but he wasn’t going to be able to commit to the whole run, only about half of it.

Little Shop...Who Leads? Anyone know?
 Sep 18 2024, 10:33:00 PM

I would bet Christopher has some sort of out (he’s only a temporary Washington) - surely they can find someone to take over for the October portion of his tenure and it wouldn’t affect sales.

Little Shop wouldn’t really be able to survive with three weeks of understudy leads

According to the sleuths on Twitter, it looks like the odds are on Nicholas Christopher & Sherie René Scott based on the silhouettes.

Christopher seems to be more correct, while Scott is slightly more ambiguous.
