I saw a high school production of Godspell when I was about 10 years old. I thought it was the greatest thing at the time (thinking about it now, it pretty much sucked), and I really loved all the songs.

Seeing another production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown is what convinced me that I needed to get back on the stage.

I didn't see any theater as a child. But for some reason I bought the OBCR of ANNIE for myself (I was 14), and that was it.

as a child growing up in Indiana, my exposure to theatre was nearly non-exist. i did however, watch the lawrence welk show religiously with my grandparents. we also watched the old movie musicals all the time. thank goodness i had a mother who listened to her four year old son when he said he wanted to be a dancer. she immediately put me in class and piano lessons. she's been my biggest fan ever since. now i'm living the dream i had when i was four, and i have my mother to thank for it.

When I was 12 years-old, my mom took me to see "A Chorus Line" at the Shubert. I remember sitting there in the front row of the mezzanine, completely transfixed and trying not to cry. I was so moved by the story, NYC, and just "theater" that I have seldom been so emotionally overwhelmed since. I went home, got the cast recording, and decided - I may never be an actress, singer nor dancer, but this is for me. I'm a lifelong theater consumer and proud of it!

too bad the movie is a shameful bastardization of the stage version.

Iknow I am not the only one, but for a lot of kids who have lived far far away from NY or any big theatre hubs a lot of our inspiration came form cast recordings...I remember the first time i took out the Secret Garden recording from the library...I was hooked on musicals forever...not long after that came Into the Woods recording and an amazing production I saw at Theatre Calgary.

THANK YOU NYCDNCR -- I thought the film of A Chorus Line was about the worst thing you could ever do to a perfect show -- when they gave "What I Did for Love" to Cassie as a solo as she walked up the spiral staircase I stoodup, said ENOUGH and left the theater....

Bernadette Peters in Into the Woods made me want to be a Broadway actor. Her performance was mindboggling. Still day when I watch the DVD it is a great performance.

I didn't even realize i it until the other day when i checked out my program and his autograph was on the cover. Marrisa was also in it too! So ya, i have Hunter to thank for my life in theatre =0)

My first show was 'Beauty and the Beast' when I was 5 and the theatre bug took a firm grip on me, making me really want to act. Then, the first time I saw 'AIDA' when it had just opened or was possibly still in previews... It just bit me. -Penny

I can't pick out one particular time. I've been doing it for so long that at one time or another it just made sense to want to do it for the rest of my life.

A friend of mine in high school many years ago urged me to join a drama club....I was resistant at first...but when he told me the club was loaded with girls, I relented...found out that theater was the first thing I could do very well.....though the girls were and remained problematic....My interest ebbed and flowed after that, but when I saw the original production of "Grease" on Broadway in '72...the passion was re-ignited and the bug never left.

I think for me it was the old Mary Martin Peter Pan video. I watched that over and over and paraded around the house as Captain hook. The year after I left High School my school did Peter Pan and I missed my chance to play hook.

Then I saw Show Boat with Dick Van Patten in Chicago and that did it. I was hooked.

Watching friends perform and seeing how much fun they had together as a cast made me want to start performing too. Then being surrounded by theatre people led me to see shows and I fell in love with them. :o) The first show I saw after I started performing was LSOH. I remember sitting there in absolute awe (say what you want about the show, but it was the first time I saw an entire group of incredibly talented people ((especially GUYS THAT COULD SING!)) haha. :)

"The Wiz" on tour at Ford Theatre when I was 9. Stephanie Mills was great. Even though our seats were in the balcony, I was in awe at how everything, special effects, artistry and whatnot, was done on a stage, as opposed to TV or movies, in such an incredible way. That awe has stuck with me ever since.

I have been seeing theater since I was 7 years old, and my first Broadway show was "Big". Since age 7, I saw between 2 and 5 shows each year; however, on January 5th, 2003, when I walked into the Neil Simon Theater to see Hairspray...I became addicted. I have been seeing between 35 and 60 shows a year.
