Denise Van Outen, Melanie Griffith, George Hamilton, Petra Neilsen, BJ Crosby, Angie Stone (unless she's on one of her albums... then I enjoy her singing. Live? Not so much)

What's wrong with Denise Van Outen? She's a hottie and can sing.

Smokey Joe's is the best show in the world and should have run for 5,000 years. Brenda Braxton is . . . . there's no word! When she's with the chair . . i get very excited. Updated On: 7/14/04 at 03:02 AM

Both Denise Van Outen and BJ Crosby were absolutely horrid in Chicago. *shudder* I try to block both performances out.

the woman that plays the Jewish mom on the CAROLINE OR CHANGE recording. EW!!! Her tone deaf voice drives me up the wall. Great, great recording......wrong person to sing that role.

HOLD UP...

How can one not love the sound of Rebecca Luker's voice? I don't understand...one might say shes not acting the songs...but her soundis wonderful.

Weird how nobody likes Christine Andreas. I love her voice.

And Frances Ruffelle has grown on me. What is this thing with calling people's voice nasal? I don't understand it.. Sutton Foster has a nasal quality to her voice...but she isnt singing in her nose... nor is Bernadette Peters

And how can you not like the sound Lea Salonga makes..its so pure.

I agree with Michael Crawford...drives me nuts for the most part. and sonmetimes Audra is too much even thgough I love her. Barabara Cook has a tendency to drive me nuts as does Mandy Patinkin, but he is good.

I personally love Rebecca Luker in The Secret Garden...and her "My White Knight" in Music man is the best I've ever heard it performed. (though I'm sure Barbara Cook did an amazing job with it also)

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

J., now that you mention it, Lucy probably was supposed to be obnoxious. If so, it certainly worked. And, okay, I'm willing to give Rebecca Luker a second chance. Maybe that song in "Brownstone" threw her off.

Just MY opinions, don't shoot me in the face:

To say nothing of her AMAZING talent, I can't listen to Audra McDonald.

Nor do I care for Patti Lupone in anything I have ever seen or heard.

Vocal coach is very different voice teacher. Many voice teachers also coach, but coaching is all about style and musicianship, whereas teachers focus on technique. A vocal coach is also a pianist. Any music college worth anything will give it's voice majors both a vocal coach and a voice teacher. Some teachers will actually use a coach as an accompanist for their lessons so that you can get the extra opinion. Most voice teachers (like me) will do coaching in the lesson to save their students money, but when you get into the big leagues, it is separate.

Frances Ruffelle did come and do some concerts in New York about 6 years ago - I had the good fortune to see 2 of them. And she was speldid as Eponine (but I will freely admit to being biased - love her voice). She just starred for a few months as Roxie in "Chicago" in London (yes, she is British). And she just has a new album out, available at Dress Circle or through her website.

I'll probably get slammed for this comment, but I find Barbara Cook has a very pinched and annoying sound. I saw her concert back in 1987 and it did absolutely nothing for me.

I have a feeling I'm gonna get shot for this, but is there anyone out there like me who does NOT like Linda Eder's voice? I've never been a fan of hers- I also can't stand Sarah Brightman. I think it's how she pronounces her "o"s. I always cringe.

Patti LuPone and Bernadette Peters are two people with strange voices despite their popularity. I also do not think Kristen Chenoweth is a good belter at all.

This thread reminds me of reading the customer reviews of the Aida CD on Amazon.com. You would not believe the number of people who wrote things like "Heather Headley cannot sing!" or "Heather Headley's voice is so annoying!" or "I do not like Heather Headley's voice." Foolish people. They would probably have preferred Mary J. Blige.

Whether you like her or not, Kristin Chenoweth has amazing belting technique. It's very free, which is a problem with many singers. Also, that ping that many find annoying means that she's really placing it well.

Whenever I hear Michael Ball, I think his throat is going to expload. I wish that there were a recording of Peter Lockyear's Marius, and I'm not just biased b/c we went to school together: one of my favorite memories of college was at Freshman orientation, when I went to see Les Mis, I called my Mom afterwards to tell her how great it was. I told her that most of the cast was ok, but Marius was amazing! I then found out that Peter and I were in new student seminar together, and then we did one of our classroom observations together. He is one of the nicest people that I've ever met. Can you imagine how great it would be to have him as your teacher?
