Okay, everyone must have a particular singer whose voice they can't stand. Since I started the thread, I'll go first. Sarah Brightman's voice really gets on my nerves. She sounds very nasally, especially when she says anything with a hard "e" sound. Same goes for Kristin Chenoweth. Her voice makes listening to "Wicked" that much more torturous for me. Who do *you* think has an obnoxious voice?
Kristin's is only irritating b/c Glinda is supposed to be an incredibly irritating person. Listen to her operatic sections, she's amazing. Sara Brightman just can't sing.
Good! I'm not the only one who are annoyed by Sarah Brightman. Another person who really irritate me (voice wise) is Jennifer Cody (although she's usually in the ensemble of shows but on "The Wild Party" she just irritates me).

Idina Menzel, but onyl sometimes. Sometimes when she belts it sounds more like screaming or shrieking. And Kristin Chenoweth being nasal actually amuses me. I was doing "Popular" with my voice teacher and she said that she's supposed to sound nasal.
Moo with me! And I was Elphaba the Good so if anything that I post sounds like her, it's because I am her!
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."

If you look at the interviews with her, she's nowhere near as irritating. Belting always has a bit of a nasal quality, Kristin's belt is just pronounced: her soprano is gorgeous (her belt in "For Good" is much softer). As far as Sara Brightman, I don't know any students in the Music Department of NYU (or professors) that like her. She sings in her throat, which makes it sound really weird. She's also horrible to watch: I always feel like she's going to fly away. Idina only screams when she's having a bad night. When she's at her best, she's far from it: she is amazing! WHY COULDN'T SHE DO THAT WHEN I BROUGHT OUT OF TOWNERS TO SEE WICKED?!
As much as I love MJW, her voice in songs such as "Without Love" is really irritating. Her voice is weird though, sometimes she has this irritating voice and sometimes she's belting.

I love Marissa Jaret Winouker, but I definitely see what you mean. She can be a little nasally on high notes, but I'm willing to overlook that because the rest of her performance is so good.
As a classically trained soprano, I adore (and am totally jealous of) Kristin's voice when she's singing opera or anything of that ilk. And I agree - Sarah Brightman - AWFUL. Also Charlotte Church - awful. I can't stand Faith Prince either. Jodi Benson. Marissa Jaret Winokur. I'll probably be back with 25 more before the end of this thread.

Not neccesarily MusicPos2. I mean Opera singers who have been vocally trained since the age of 6 have wacky vibratos (One reason why I do not like Opera all that much)

I think Taye Diggs is a relatively weak singer when they put him next to Brian D'Arcy James, Idina Menzel, Felicia Finley, and others like that in Lippas The Wild Party. It always gets to me that he cannot be up to the standards of his fellow castmates vocally. He has a pleasant voice but just not powerful enough for the role and the rest of the ensemble/leads. He throws off an amazing balance of talent.
BSoBW2: I punched Sondheim in the face after I saw Wicked and said, "Why couldn't you write like that!?"
