The sound of music I just love it :), also West Side story, My Fair Lady, Singin' in the rain, Funny Girl, Oliver and newsies! LoL a lot more too but those are my favorites
...and though I make a point of protesting every time my girlfriend wants to watch it...Moulin Rouge. She left her DVD at my house once and I think I watched it like ten times in two days.
I think that one of the most underrated and well made movie musicals is "Hair". I also like a few others mentioned here. I'm surprised that the movie version of "The Wiz" would make it on anyone's favorite list. IMO, that move, along with "A Chorus Line" are two of the worst movie musicals ever made. To each his own.
"Smart! And into all those exotic mystiques -- The Kama Sutra and Chinese techniques. I hear she knows more than seventy-five. Call me tomorrow if you're still alive!"
Pab! of course, I love the movie of Hair. I think it actually improved on the show. Plus the Twyla Tharp choreography, a great cast and chorus. I think I need to put it on as soon as I get home.
Yes, we do need a third vampire musical.--Little Sally, Gypsy of the Year 2005.
High Society, Broadway Melody of the 1940's, Rocky Horror, Bye Bye Birdie, Pajama Game, Millie (if you've never seen it, rent it to watch Carol Channing sing jazz baby), Annie, kiss me kate, music man, my fair lady, sound of music, cabaret, pirates of penzance, I'm such a nerd I could go on forever!!!!!
There are too many brilliant musicals, several for each mood I might be in, so I'll just name--in no particular order: Fiddler on the Roof Carousel My Fair Lady Meet Me in St. Louis Oklahoma! The King and I Into the Woods Wicked The Music Man The Sound of Music West Side Story The Light in the Piazza Phantom of the Opera Chicago L'il Abner
Sidenote: I read(Boston Globe?) that Brokeback's stars Heath and Jake first met when they both lost the role of Christian in Moulin Rouge to Ewan McGregor.

1) Newsies 2) Rent 3) The Sound of Music 4) The Music Man 5) Moulin Rogue 6) Little Shop of Horrors (maybe would've been higher on the list if they didn't change the ending) 7) Hair Hedwig and the Angry Inch
*really needs to see Cabaret soon*
