ANNIE GET YOUR GUN: "Her nails will be polished and in her hair, she'll wear a gardenia and I'll be there." (He'll be in her hair?)

GYPSY: "You'll be swell. Wait and see. There's the bell. Follow me" (Sondheim couldn't come up with anything better?)

What's wrong with the blah blah section?

I think it makes perfect sense. They're blah blahing the adults who are Totally F*CK-ing them.

Personally, I think I have too much bloom.

the blah blah also makes me laugh. it's dumb, but i love it, because it IS how the kids hear the adults. they do repeat it just a few too many times though. (i love spring awakening wholeheartedly as well.)

but my junk... i actually really like that lyrical choice. it seems strange at first, but it's good at describing something sort of indescribable. i actually described a recent ex-boyfriend as "my junk" -- something you carry around with you (perhaps involuntarily), that is ridiculous and just takes up space and weighs you down, but you just can't get rid of it -- and you're not sure you want to.

I really enjoy the song "And Then There Were None" in SA, but I hate this lyric:

"And I mean please...That's all I need
Ger real Jose, by now you know the
score"

*shudder*

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Bring him peace
Bring him joy
He is young
He is only a boy

which is why, in context, I think that song is BRILLIANT re: dumbest song lyrics the second I SAW it I was like oooooh wow, how perfect is that!

its just, take it out of context and its like "blah blah"???

I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

The first set of blah blah blah's in Totally F*cked in SA makes me want to laugh. The second set works better.

A lot of the lyrics in "My Junk" in SA make me cringe.

Okay, this will sound weird, but in the Finale of Into The Woods...

"Careful the path they take
Wishes come true, not free"

It doesn't really make sense, and I always think they're saying "two, not three"...haha I'm a strange person

I think if I had to pick one song in "Spring Awakening" that just wasn't good, it would be "My Junk." Does it work better on stage?

Galindagirl2, why doesn't that lyric make sense to you? It's saying that wishes come with a price.

galindagirl2 is obviously too unsophisticated to comprehend the genius of Sondheim.

Careful the path they take...(in other words) have your children take the right paths in life. The witch is saying that the parents/guardians have to be careful of what path they take.

Wishes come true, not free...(in other words) If you work hard enough your dreams and wishes will come true, but they don't come without a cost.

I don't mind that you didn't understand it, galindagirl2, it's just that this was an easier lyric selection. He has harder and more complicated phrases. I think that's why StageManager2 was being a little rude (cough cough).

Thank you very much, Ruprecht. I've always understood the lyric's meaning. I guess it just felt awkward in my head for some reason. (Probably because of the two/three thing). You're right though. It does sound silly that I'm questioning the interpretation of this particular lyric, when many of Sondheim's lyrics are much more complicated. Sorryre: dumbest song lyrics

And no offense taken, Stage Manager. Fortunately, I'm sophisticated enough not to be easily flustered by cheap jabs at my level of intelligence and ability to appreciate art.

My all-time favourite WTF? lyric was from a "midnight musical" at La Mama, one based on the Trilby legend (for those not familiar, the Trilby story is where we got the stereotype of the Svengali -- now do a Google). After the mostly harmless overture, the curtain rises on the cast, dressed in vague (very vague) approxmations of Victorian London attire. To the audience, they sing:

What are we doing? We're making meat loaf!

And it got worse from there. But all these years later, I still remember it.

Sunset Boulevard, "The Lady's Paying:" rhyming "kosher" with "brochure." I laughed so loud the night I saw the show in London my friend who was sitting in the second balcony heard it and knew it was me.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

For me it is from "Zanna Don't"

You over there
Don't be shy, come over here

Maybe I am missing something, but that doesn't even rhyme!

Also I must have her to wife from "Agony" really is just obnoxiously bad for me. As much as I love the rest of ITW, I guess Sondhiem was having an off moment with that line.

I think MARY POPPINS has some "winners" in it:

"Jelly isn't jelly till you set it - Anything can happen if you let it"

"I recognise fully that you are a bully!"

Ouch.

alright, now TARZAN lyrics- some of the worst I've heard
here's for starters...

KERCHAK
"What do you mean?
I do it all the time"

KALA
"You don’t"

KERCHAK
"I do"

KALA
"You don’t"

KERCHAK
"I don’t"

KALA
"No, you don’t, you know
You’re my husband
My friend, our leader
You’re the one that I love completely"

or

JANE
"Every moment I’m with him
I feel so complete
I cannot deny what I’m feeling"

those are only a few examples...
