Hi Guys- I'd love to get any suggestions that anyone wants to throw my way for comedic audition songs. (There were some great suggestions the other day for guys- which unfortunately didn't really didn't help me)It seems lately that everyone wants to see me do 'funny funny', and the only thing in my audition binder that falls under this category is 'Taylor the Latte Boy' which has actually met with a surprising amount of success. Still, I'd like some more options. All my runners-up are more quirky/amusing than 'funny funny' (Look what Happened to Mabel, What More Do I Need?, I think I May Want to Remember Today etc...) I've also had success in the past with taking a traditional song or standard and putting a ridiculous and and unconventional twist to it (and despite the previous song list I also have a good soprano extension) Point is I'm open to any ideas! Thanks! Anna
Have you ever used "He's Here" from - How Now Dow Jones? I personally feel that is a very funny song as well as a great song for a "Spamalot" audition..totally off topic lol.
Gorgeous from Apple Tree if you haven't used that already
There's also a song .. I believe it's called "Poisoning Pigeons In the Park".. i'm not sure what it's from though but, it is sort of rangey and I am sure you can handle it from the way you describe your vocal quality.
"A Summer In Ohio" from L5Y would also be really good.
"I can't figure out what kind of life this is, comedy or tragedy, I just know it's showbiz. And what if I don't agree with the lines I have to read? They don't pay me enough, the way I see it."
All of the above songs are audition cliches and anything from THE LAST 5 YEARS is to be avoided like the plague. Stick to your original plan of imposing unconventional twists on standard material, which demonstrates actor smarts.
Actually, EnchantedHunter is right, anything from The Last 5 Years is overused, every director or casting director I know of (including myself) is just tired of people auditioning with anything from Sun & Moon, Songs for a New World, or The Last 5 Years. My suggestions: "Dance,10 Looks,3"-A Chorus Line (though you risk that it is also overused. "Nobody Does It Like Me"-Seesaw "Funny Honey"-Chicago "A Call From the Vatican"-Nine (it can be very funny if you take a comedic approach)
"TO LOVE ANOTHER PERSON IS TO SEE THE FACE OF GOD"- LES MISERABLES---
"THERE'S A SPECIAL KIND OF PEOPLE KNOWN AS SHOW PEOPLE... WE'RE BORN EVERY NIGHT AT HALF HOUR CALL!"--- CURTAINS
Tons of them. But first you'll have to pay the usual $ 65.00 coaching fee.
Frankly, any serious, self-respecting actor should do the legwork and research the wealth of active, appropriate material available to them through libraries, CDs, etc., instead of being lazy and rehashing the same crappy Jason Robert Brown songs that are deadweight as audition material and do nothing for the actor.
Hi. I have comedic songs that I have written. Some have won awards. If you are interested I would love to have you sing them for your auditions. “ Big Girl Blues” “ Reinventing Me” “Her Point of View “ Let me know if you’re interested, And I will get them to you. Gail
