About 11 years ago, there was a national tour with the original staging, staged by Larry Fuller, who was the original choreographer. It starred Valerie Perreli and Jennifer Beck (Dainty June in Bette Midler's Gypsy). It was wonderful. I'm just curious as to who would be starring in the revival if there was one (Please not Bernadette!) Rachel York? Marin Mazzie? Idina Menzel?
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive.
"Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot."
"No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one."
Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.
I love the music, but I thought the show was just okay. Saw the tour in February, and it was very well done, but the whole thing just seemed weird to me on stage (perhaps because I saw the movie first ...).
If you've read even one of the other 400 threads on this topic, you already know who my pick would be and I stand behind my choice 100%. ORFE-TA! ORFE-TA!
I'm thinkin' Kathy Voyoto (sp?) who is the Eva on tour right now would wonderful. I thouroughly enjoyed her performance in Chicago back in November. Marin would be wonderful but I wonder if she's too old for the role...
i want a revival! the first one was before my time, sadly. but i'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to see this show. i think it could be really amazing if it were revived.
As long as Madonna is no where near the thing I'm there. We did some scenes from Evita in dinner theatre at my high school around the time the movie came out and I think our horrid production still had better singing. Its time for a revival I say.
They really should! I met this waiter at Alplebee's In NYC and he said that if it ever revived, he'd try out for Che. (please correct me if I spell it wrong) That and It would bring a lot of attention to B'way.
you say i'm weird! look at everyone you're sitting with! and hey, those guys over there just threw napkins up in the air like they were on something! it's contajous! you can't help it!
