Yesterday (april fools day) Broadway.com posted that Angelina Jolie, and Reese Witherspoon were to star in the movie musical of Wicked. Obviously this is a load of bunk, however I've had the idea on my mind and have wondered who would be good if and when they make Wicked into a movie. It'll be a long time until that happens though.... My Dream Cast:
Elphaba: Me ha! (I know, I know) Galinda: Reese Witherspoon (ironically she was my choice before broadway.com's little joke Fieyro: Heath Ledger (droool) Boq: Elijah Wood (can't ague with that!!!) Nessa: Natalie Portman or Keira Knightley Madame Morrible: Judi Dench Wizard: Joel Gray (he does movies and broadway, duhh) Dr. D: Liam Neesion
Umm yea, out of those I think Elijah Wood as Boq is the best. Boq's my favorite character too.
I actually agree with most of those choices, especially Reese Witherspoon and Elijah wood. I'm not sure who I would cast as Elphaba. On one hand, you need a talented actor, because it seems like a complex role... but on the other hand, not many people can belt like Idina.
Did any of you hear Elijah on SNL? He played Boy George during a segment and he sang, he actually was pretty good. Reese might be able to be taught...she'd be perfect though, she has that type/or at least can act that type of personality

has anyone ever heard heath ledger sing? fieyros vocals are no piece of cake. norbert has an amazing range and he makes it sound easy.
furthermore, im not so sure about reese witherspoon being able to be "taught" glindas vocals, kristen has a degree in opera, and that role uses it quite often, any actress playing the part would have to be able to do pop and opera, and really well. im not sure how many of these exist...
I think Eponine's choices are perfection---they can make the operatic parts of Glinda's role lower for Reese---I think she could do it. She's the best for the role, acting-wise, no doubt about it. I think she could pull it off.
I'd say Kiera Knightley for Nessa-she just looks younger and more like the beautiful sister who gets all the attention to me.
As far as Elphaba goes....I think you should just put a Broadway talent in it; I don't think there's any movie star who could really pull it off.
Elphaba: Indina Menzel Galinda: Kristin Chenoweth Wizard: Joel Gray
I like my choices better.
About the movie, is it based off of the musical or the book? If it is based off the book, it will be nothing like the Broadway show at all.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

well my pick for fiyero is adam! but since its a movie he'd prolly be to old to play a college student if the rest of the cast is Reese and the others. not that he is OLD but he is no college kid! Stage is diff when u dont have to be the exact age of the person ur playing. Plus he has to good of a voice for only two songs!!
How about Taye for him (if we are not considering age anymore) he made his name in the movie world and can do the part!
Elijah would be perfect as Boq .. and he can sing! i saw SNL of him too, really impressed w/ the voice. Not broadway material .. but good enough to be in a movie version of a show w/ work and practice

I AM NOW "TGIF!"
im sure she'd be great, i just cant imagine anyone else in the role, though im sure other actresses could do it (and will have to, because i doubt wicked will be closing anytime soon- even when the origional cast leaves)
i just dont like the idea of changing a piece's music for the sake of casting a star in the role.
and in response to nystateofmind, could al perhaps have clicked on this topic thinking, god forbid, that it was a thread about an actual movie possibility? i mean with universal as a producer of the show, it's not a great leap to assume that they might try to milk this property for all it's worth by slapping it up on the silver screen. granted, it would be an abyssmal idea and a catastrophic failure, but that's neither here, nor there.
i myself envision a saturday morning cartoon, after all that's pretty much what this show is anyway. that way they can keep the helium voiced blonde bobble head since no one on earth can simulate that nails on chalkboard style of hers.

no, please no Bette for Morrible--i loved the Judi Dench suggestion.
i'm stepping way out on a limb here & throwing in Alainis Morrisette for Elphaba. I was listening to her Jagged Little Pill CD recently & thought she'd be fabulous in the role. Also, didn't she do a movie recently? or am I making that up? Hell, just let her take over after Idina leaves the cast. Flame away!!

NyStateOfMind- YOu said that you don't like the idea of the music's key being changed to fit the actor, but some of the music was changed in CHicago for Renee Zellwegger and others, and did that not work? I thought it was successful and I would have no problem with the music being changed to suit Witherspoon if she took the role as long as they stayed true to the original song.
As far as Elphaba's casting goes, I think CHristina Aguilera would be a good choice. She's odd looking so she would fit the appearance, Elphaba's not that hard of an acting role, and she definetly has the vocal skills to sing the role, not to mention all of the tickets that are going to be sold if she does end up being cast.
