If the show runs for a few more years I'd absolutely love to see Joshua Colley tackle this role. Idk if you guys have seen him singing 'How Far I'll Go' from Moana, but this kid is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
I'd love to see Anthony Rosenthal as Evan at some point.

Seems like the wrong direction age-wise to play a high school student...

I highly doubt the production will run long enough for Rosenthal to become age-appropriate for the role.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."

My guess is that he's gone in beginning of November.
What about his current understudy Colton Ryan ? My guess is that at some point, he's going to start going on somewhat regularly to help the show make a transition to a non-Ben Platt version. The show is bordering on dangerously dependent on one actor.
Does anyone think that Colton Ryan is too conventionally attractive for the role? He looks and acts like a very confident high school jock. I mean, the kid is pretty fit/muscular and has a winning smile. He looks like he's about to be swept up by some Disney Channel franchise any second now. His voice is great and I would love to see him onstage, but I have a hard time picturing him as a very removed and socially paralyzed individual. Maybe I'm alone in this and can't see the bigger picture :)
Pretty people have social and psychological issues, too

I enjoyed Austin P. McKenzie in Spring Awakening, but I don't remember his voice being particularly strong. This is a role that requires solid technique and vocal stamina--McKenzie strikes me more as an actor who sings.

Alex Wyse feels like pretty ideal casting for this.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
Can Adam Langdon who's playing Christopher on tour, sing?

That's probably when his contract expires, but given how much money that show is raking in, and given how much of it is likely to be dependent on Platt being in the show, I'm going to bet that they are going to throw a significant chunk of change at him to keep in an extra three to six months. I wonder if there's any chance of a move to a bigger theater to maximize the box office if he does extend.
