Personally I have been wanting Lin Manuel or Laura Benanti to host for a while, but given that theyre busy with Hamilton and She Loves Me respectively, the probably won't be able to. Given this I was thinking Josh Groban would be a good choice. He has a big name and he will be on Broadway in the fall so it will be good publicity for that. I would love to see what he does with the hosting gig. What do you guys think?
As of now, She Loves Me will be ending its limited run just the week before the Tonys, though according to IBDB, it will be ending it's run on July 10th.
Jon groff, though he's probably that big of a name. They can always get the glee cast to cohost with him. I actually think jane lynch would be a great choice. Though since its the 70th ceremony they should get nph, isn't he still on a contract with NBC to produce another show though, and he can performs bigger again. why couldn't they wait to perform bigger for this years tony awards.

James Corden works in la. He can't really take a month off from his show for a one time gig.

Considering Neil Patrick Harris' previous working relationship with CBS, I don't think the idea of him returning to host would be completely out of the question.
Lin is popular right now as creator and web personality, but for a polyglot talent whose presence and performance is probably the weakest of their many attributes, hosting an award show isn't the right showcase for him. Writing original material for it and doing a crowd pleasing rap cameo is more his speed.
James Corden is the logical choice. It wouldn't be difficult for him to pre-tape shows to be able to take a week off to prepare. I don't think Lin-Manuel has much of a name outside of Broadway, so I would not think he would be considered. However, he most likely will be a very showcased person on Tony night. At this stage, anyone but NPH!
The only review of a show that matters is your own.
Groban, Miranda and Groff don't have the chops for it, Corden is both a logistical nightmare and less well known than any of those. Harris is a no, Lynch a possible maybe and that leaves Martin and Colbert as the front runners.
The Tonys could survive as a host-less show, as some award shows have done. You have an announcer and the presenters do a bit or two, if you will. You could pull in some bigger names without the commitment of hosting.
A combination of Jane Lynch and a couple of BW vets in CBS shows, say Jeremy Jordan and Matt Morrison. They take care of the singing and dancing and she handles the Host's jokes/punchlines.

Lynch just hosted the Peoples Choice and I thought she was awful, so no thank you.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

Since when was Matthew Morrison on a CBS show?
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
I watch the Good Wife and I've never seen him, but okay lol
ETA: Oh, I just googled it (which I guess I should have done right away) and this was just announced "2 days ago" by TV Guide, so I guess I'm not that behind on the news.

They would be great duetting on "Bosom Buddies," wouldn't they?
Lin Manuel has become one of the all-time Broadway legends in the past year and would be the best choice, although his plate is obviously very full. Maybe give him an opening, a closing, one or two moments in between, and have a lot of well-known-in-all-media presenters (Cranston, Mirren, Groff, Lavin, Pacino, Groban, SJP) throughout the show to keep 'em watching.
If they could actually get Jeremy and Matthew to perform something on the tony awards together that would be a dream.

I think this year's Tony Awards have a great shot at being very mainstream thanks to several of the stars and shows on Broadway this season.
Bright Star-Steve Martin & Edie Brickell's musical.
Hamilton-The biggest pop culture phenomenon to have come out of Broadway since The Book of Mormon. When it was covered on 60 Minutes, it was the highest rated broadcast in recent memory.
On Your Feet!-Gloria & Emilio Estefan's jukebox/biomusical.

Seriously? I love Hugh but he was so boring last time he hosted.
"James Corden works in la. He can't really take a month off from his show for a one time gig."
Who says he has to take a month? He writes the gig in LA, comes to New York for a weekend and flies home the next day. It's happened before and I'm sure it could happen again. The most I could see is him missing a few of his shows.
God, please, no Jane Lynch. I shudder at the thought.
