With the success of such muscial's as Chicago and Dreamgirls, and the failures such as Phantom and Rent, what muscials should they take a stab at for the big screen?

AVENUE Q in the style of those Muppet movies.

With Sweeney, Hairspray, and Mamma Mia on the horizon, I'd love to see an ambitious producer/director take a shot at Follies. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect to see it anytime soon, since it's note commercially attractive. However, with those amazing songs, some rework on the book, and a visionary director, it could be an artistic masterpiece.

I would love to see La Cage Aux Folles as a movie. I'm not sure how soon it could be done with The Birdcage only made ten years ago, but I think it could work with the right director and screenplay. Most of the songs can be explained, due to the club setting And those that aren't could be worked up to, or just cut. I think it would be awesome to just do Anne on my Arm as a number in the son's head, like it is in the stage show.

I have several names, one is Julian2. I am also The Opps Girl. But cross me, and I become Bitch Dooku!

"AVENUE Q in the style of those Muppet movies."

That would probably be the only way to do Avenue Q as a movie, unless anyone can see it done like Space Jam or something like that.

I would really love to see a SpamAlot movie with Tim Curry, David Hyde Pierce, and Hank Azaria.

I would also love to see Jersey Boys as a movie with as much of the original cast as possible including JLY, Daniel, Christian, and Bobby, as well as some well known names in other roles. Plus, the narration could kind be like the narration used in The Pursuit of Happyness, where the scene is going on and there's narration in the background or it could be just like in the show.

If they could pull it off... Do Ragtime as a MOVIE. but that would be so very hard as it is simply as close to brilliant to a stage show as ever.

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

Though I love JERSEY BOYS, I don't think the essence and appeal of the 'live' stage-version would work on the big screen. Same with A CHORUS LINE. The stagings of these shows is so essential that 'opening' them up for film just won't work for them.

JERSEY BOYS and A CHORUS LINE work only in their 'live' performances since the audience itself is basically a character.

Cabaret is already a movie.

I think Ragtime could work, if they got the right director to do it.

Rob Marshall has already commented on making perhaps FOLLIES or INTO THE WOODS.
Bill Condon has also expressed interest in FOLLIES.
I think the JERSEY BOYS movie is already in process (and WICKED is rumored as well).
Hugh Jackman let the cat out of the bag with a remake of CAROUSEL on the horizon (better be soon as he's getting older).

Casting for FOLLIES and INTO THE WOODS would be very interesting. Wouldn't you love to see Barbra Streisand up there as Phyllis or perhaps Carlotta? Bernadette Peters would be a heartbreaking Sally (and could still play the Witch in ITW). You could Peter Gallagher up there as Ben and Mandy Patinkin as Buddy (now that he's aged into it). Richard Gere type-wise makes a great Ben, but he doesn't have the right voice for it.

I don't think Spamalot could work as a movie only because it's made from a movie.

Well, then explain the film-versions of THE PRODUCERS and the upcoming HAIRSPRAY, huh?

SPAMALOT could be just that -- a film-version of the musical-version of SPAMALOT.

follies would be amazing!!!! I would also love to see assassins! It would be interesting to see how a director would approach the different times of the assassins.

Casting for Follies? Donna Murphy as Phyllis!!! Elaine Stritch clearly must sing broadway baby!!!This is getting me so excited!

As much as I'd like to see this happen, if Follies were to be made, you would expect to see big name Hollywood folks rather than theater folks. Probably Debbie Reynolds or Shirley Maclaine to sing Broadway Baby or I'm Still Here.

Spamalot and Jersey Boys are naturals.

The origional cast of Spamalot has enough very recognizable names to make it a go.

Jersey Boys, I could imagine something very different from the stage show. The Four Seasons have a very fascinating story to tell, and I'm sure Toronto has sets that could pass for North Newark and Belleville.

I think Jersey Boys screams to be a movie. Think of the recent success of Ray, Walk the Line, etc. (even Dreamgirls). I think it would be a wonderful biopic musical.

I'd also love to see Miss Saigon and Into the Woods. With the right director, Into the Woods could be very dark and pretty amazing...I have these images of Little Red walking up to the edge of the woods, staring up at the endlessly tall gray trees. You could even do some cool tricks with the woods being "alive" and the Mysterious Man could appear to be some sort of organic extension of the woods.

I'd also love to see a great take on Assassins.

I can see Avenue Q doing very well as a Showtime or HBO movie, like Reefer Madness.

I always though L5Y could do well as an indie flick.

Jewtpoia is not a musical, but isn't that in the works too?

Ummm..Purpleprince, all of those people are far too old to play those roles. And Goldie is a bit past child bearing age. However, it would make a fun movie.
