What tours are going Non-Equity for the 2011/2012 season? I know Young Frankenstein is. I figured there had to be a few more. I wouldn't be surprised if HAIR does that.

A My Fair Lady non-equity tour is starting through Theater League. I think maybe South Pacific and 9 to 5 may go non-equity, but I am not entirely sure.

I don't believe Shrek is going Non-Equity, tbh. That set is WAY too large for non-equity venues. Even with it scaled down, it'd look dreadful. If and when it goes non-eq, it won't be until 12/13. I can see 9 to 5, Hair, South Pacific, Young Frankenstein going Non-Equity (Mostly because they are) but not Shrek. Shrek's equity tour is scheduled through 2012.

Does anyone know/think Next to Normal will go Non-Equity?

Next to Normal won't go Non-Equity. It wouldn't sell well enough at some of those smaller town venues. I'm not sure how well it is selling in it's first leg, but there might be a second national tour.

Shrek most def. will not be going Non-Eq. The make-up for Shrek alone just wouldn't be possible on a Non-Eq budget.

I know Young Frankenstein is for suregoing Non-Eq because of the audition notice, so are all of these other shows just predictions or do we have concrete evidence?

Next to Normal is going Non-Equity. Or, there extending the tour and changing the logo.. Because it's booked in Kansas City in June 2012

the non-equity A Chorus Line tour will continue and tour Australia/Asia for 6 months(June-November) before resuming in the US in January 2012.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Some markets have used that (dreadful) n2n logo in their season announcements from this season. I wouldn't use that as a way to estimate if its going Non Eq.

South Pacific, btw, is definitely going non equity.

The equity tour ends March 20th in Toronto.

South Pacific is also managed by NETworks, so it was only a matter of time...

Are we sure that Hair will be equity throughout 2011? I thought it was ending in Orlando 6/26? It definitely is a tour that could go Non-Eq very easily.

I am almost positive that Hair will remain equity for the 2011-2012 season. I am really bummed South Pacific is going non equity. The show is coming to my city in January. I really hope they don't make extensive cuts to the orchestra and set design.

Does anyone know if Spring Awakening (w/ NETworks on Tour) is continuing their Non-Equity Tour after May 2011?

"South Pacific is also managed by NETworks, so it was only a matter of time... "

That's not necessarily true. They produced a full tour of Piazza, Equity, and didn't send that out non eq. SP is going non eq because there's much interest from presenters, but not enough "major market" presenters to warrant another year of full Equity. By going non eq, they can fill in the gaps with small markets.

And, whether its managed by NETworks, or not, almost EVERY major show that's a hit on the road has a non eq version that goes out after the first tour plays its course. Lets remember that SP had a solid TWO YEARS of Equity touring already.

I'm not one to begrudge a show going non-Equity once it has played out the available market for an Equity tour. However I do feel bad for the current cast of South Pacific who have had their run in Toronto cut so extremely short by an early closing.

Indeed. But if the ticket sales aren't there, they aren't there. Still, Toronto wasn't on the route originally. It was added on after the run in TO last summer. The show was originally going to close after Cleveland... so any time in TO could be looked at as a bonus bit of time. But I'm naturally a glass half full guy. :)

I agree, if the tickets aren't selling don't keep it running. I just have a couple of friends on that tour, one of who joined the company in Cleveland, so I can sympathize with them over the loss of the work.

I find it strange that Mamma Mia! has stayed equity for so long. It started touring in 2003 so it has been eight years.

The SECOND National started in 03. The first national (pre Broadway) began in 02, I believe.

Also, MAMMA MIA! keeps selling well enough that bigger markets will rebook it. They have downsized the tour DRAMATICALLY for the third national (current) tour, and IMHO it looks like **** now. Then again, I even thought the second national was dramatically scaled back from the original Toronto/First National production.

But with the major scale down, they've also gone to a lower tier contract (are they SETA Contract now?) so they can do more split weeks.

The next step, probably in 2-3 years would probably be non eq.
