This just popped into my head from a number of years ago:

Rita Moreno at the revival of Nine. Soooooooooooooo....tiny.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

In addition to the sightings in my earlier post in this thread, I recently saw Sigourney Weaver and Victor Garber at La Bete.

Charlie Rose (among others) was in the house for opening night of Wendy Wasserstein's An American Daughter; at one point in the play, a character mentioned Charlie Rose. The audience began tittering, giggling, and whispering (because they all knew he was there). That may have been the moment I realized that New York had become less sophisticated than River City, Iowa.

Adam Sandler @ The Little Mermaid(Heidi Blickenstaff's last show) I ran into him during intermission in the bathroom. He saw my surprised reaction, smiled and patted me on the back. I think it was a coincidence he was at Heidi's last.

Chita Rivera, Ute Lemper, Brent Barrett, Karen Ziemba at Chicago.

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

Someone posted about Lipsa Rinna and Harry Hamlin: I saw them too at XANADU and the cast changed the lines to make a joke referencing Hamlin's role in CLASH OF THE TITANS.

Susan Sarandon was at BAM for this past Saturday's evening performance of John Gabriel Borkman. I almost didn't recognize her, since she was a lot shorter and thinner than I had expected. She was also with a youngish guy who I'm assuming is her new beau.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

The ONLY celebrity I have ever seen in an audience was Madonna YEARS ago when I attended a performance of RENT's west coast premiere at the La Jolla playhouse - before it began it's Los Angeles run.

My friends and I sat directly in front of Trevor Nunn at 'Gone with the Wind', but didn't realise until we'd made some rather loud derogatory comments on how we felt about the show at the interval..

Also behind Andrew Lloyd Webber at an early preview of Bombay Dreams and again at The Woman in White, behind Richard Eyre and Cameron Mackintosh during the Bristol tryout of Mary Poppins, and next to Germaine Greer at the Menier Chocolate Factory for the opening night of A Little Night Music.

The principle cast of High School Musical filed into the row in front of me at Wicked - they were in London on some kind of promotional tour. I had no idea who they were or why all the American children in the audience kept asking for autographs...

Sorry to bump this, but just saw Melora Hardin (The Office's Jan, I believe she was also in Chicago a while back) at the Sat. matinee of Anything Goes with her family. I introduced myself to her when she was in the lounge and was incredibly friendly towards me and all her fans! Not the biggest star by any means, but still very cool, especially as my first celeb audience member at a show!

I saw George Takei and Jesse Tyler Ferguson at Ragtime's closing night last season, and I met Jim Norton and Jeffrey Seller backstage.
When I saw Night Music on Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch's opening night, I saw Mary Tyler Moore, Barbara Cook, The Genius Himself Mr. Stephen Sondheim, and there was word that Bruce Springsteen was in the Mezzanine.

I saw Hillary Clinton at BOM a few weeks ago. She came in during Two by Two and left during the curtain call (I was in SRO). Many spoke to her at intermission and she seemed to be more than happy to talk to those who actually wanted to. I heard Chelsea was there too, but I didn't see her.

This was many years ago, but I'll never forget the thrill of seeing Sidney Poitier, and shaking the hand of Sammy Davis Jr. Both were in the audience at Dreamgirls.

Hillary and Chelsea Clinton a few years back at The Pajama Game (Harry Connick Jr.) It was Mother's Day. I believe Hillary was NY State Senator back then.

Hugh Jackman at Bernadette Peter's "Gypsy" (I had to stop my mom from "accosting" him---maybe I shouldn't have done that!)

Dan Butler (from "Frasier") earlier this year at Timon of Athens.

A few weeks ago, Angela Lansbury at "Jerusalem"

Opening night of Lestat---Eric McCormick (Will & Grace), Elton John, Bernie Taupin, Star Jones, Jon Bon Jovi, Rosie O'Donnell, Lulu. I'm forgetting who else. Eric McCormick is slim and seriously handsome up close!

I was very amused to see Keith Olberman in the audience at the "live" Mystery Science Theatre 3000 performance last year at the Nokia Theatre (which I'm not even sure is called the Nokia anymore.)

Probably my fave celeb in audience sighting----Shakespeare in the Park "The Pirates of Penzance" (sometime in the early 1980s, if I remember correctly)---Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward!!! When they stood up during intermission, people APPLAUDED them and they gave a little wave around. Like royalty! (which they were in a way) :)

More than I can name, over nearly 20 years of theatregoing. Here are some recent ones:

Most of the cast of The Normal Heart (Mantello, Hickey, McFarlane, Wilcox) at The Motherf*cker With the Hat.
Hamish Linklater at Measure For Measure.
Marianne Jean-Baptiste at By the Way, Meet Vera Stark.
Will and Jada Pinkett Smith (and Matthew Morrison, though not with them) at Fences.
Marisa Tomei and Logan Marshall-Green at A Small Fire.
Liz Smith and Holland Taylor (together--are they a couple?) at Bernadette and Elaine's first performance of A Little Night Music.
Martha Plimpton, Dylan and Becky Ann Baker, and David Hyde Pierce, all at the same performance of The Merchant of Venice.
Joan Rivers at Driving Miss Daisy.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body
