Considering how widespread Jackman's fanbase is, it should probably be available online. At this point, though, who really knows?

By the way, its worth noting- a BFO forum poster who has had inside info before said a while ago that the show has already been properly taped and edited. Maybe people mistook that for the archival taping.

You have a point, Matt...thanks :)

I know the show wasn't very good compared to a lot of things, but I'm a Hugh Jackman freak and I'm excited now. Anyone have any idea what time we're looking at here?

I posted earlier that there is an e-mail sign up for future info on the show at the shows website. You might want to sign up there to get info on it's release date on DVD.

Maybe they'll release a good show on DVD next. Don't get me wrong, Hugh was great but the show was still "eh".

Totally agree! Love Hugh but the show it self....meh. I would love to see Caroline or something quality that I didnt have the chance to see released! Maybe if Oprah or someone played Caroline there would of been a chance instead of the incredible Tonya Pinkins!

I'm really glad it's going to be released. I didn't get to see it (though I wanted to SO badly), so this is going to be great!

...why 'Boy from Oz' of all musicals?

Because of Hugh. That's the only reason. If it starred Terrence Mann you'd never hear about it again.

I think he has a nice voice, but I don't think he's that amazing. I haven't seen the show, of course, but I hate the recording. I think it's pretty boring.

Matt- duh. re: There WILL Be a Boy From Oz DVD

Joizey- almost nothing of what's good about the show comes across on the CD. I'm sure it's a nice pop album for people who like that kind of thing, but the pleasure of BFO was all in the live performances.

Jackman's no Brian Stokes Mitchell, vocally, but his stage presence, charm, and acting are off-the-charts good.

Nothing on the cd can do Jackman justice. I am still in shock of what a performance I saw saturday.

I didn't get to see it, so I'm very happy that I'll have the chance to at least see it on DVD. I'm very happy about this.

Hugh Jackman's performance in BFO was a true tour de force! I'm glad to hear that it's been preserved for all to enjoy for years to come. I consider myself fortunate to have seen the show twice during it's run, and both performances were amoung the most memorable and thrilling evenings of theatre I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying!

HOORAY! I missed BFO and I was hating myself for it. I will definatly by the DVD. I know they filmed a live performance b/c my friend happened to be in the audience that day. I don't know if it will just be that show or a studio version alla Oklamhoma.

They'd be STUPID if they didn't mass produce it now and get it out in time for Christmas.

Heavens, no! If they don't edit the tape they shot for the Lincoln Center, my mom is on it. She was whooping and hollaring, and he turned the light on her, but some fat old broad in front of her called out her own name when he asked my mom. AND, he was CLEARLY talking to my mom. Anyway! After he gets done wih that old biddy, my mom goes, "You are so hot." And he goes "You just want o get on that tape!" and continues the show. Lol. My mom has gotten called on like, a million times.

This is terrific news! Congratulations everyone who signed the Boy From Oz petition. Petitions really do work.

I've started a Taboo On Broadway Petition to get a DVD commercial release and would appreciate your help and support. Sign my petition and get your friends to sign. Spread the word and maybe there will be a Taboo On Broadway DVD release as well!

"They'd be STUPID if they didn't mass produce it now and get it out in time for Christmas. "

Keep in mind what was posted on the BFO forum:

"I am here to announce that while there is no exact time frame at the moment, or indications whether it will be a previously recorded performance of the New York production or a future incarnation of the show..."

Decisions obviously have yet to be made. As others have said the archive tape won't suffice for this. They'll want to do justice to the work which may mean filming it similar to the way Oklahoma was done.

I don't know anything about this particular show, but I do know that in a lot of shows they do videotape quite a few performances for the benefit of tightening scenes, improving or changing performances, etc. These are strictly working tapes but it would be conceivable that someone in the know could edit out the best scenes from each tape and put together a CD. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it actually happens!

Actually, if they're taking the show to Japan (which some people say they are), it would be wise for them to hold off on releasing the DVD. Japan is really notorious for piracy.

Legally and contractually, it cannot be the Lincoln Center Library archival tape.

BTW, no NOT every Broadway show is taped for Lincoln Center Library...almost all the musicals are, but with the straight plays it all depends on whether the funding is there that season. Some seasons they run out of funds before all the shows are recorded...and, thus, some plays don't end up getting taped (unless of course the producers "make a contribution" financially). This has been one of the problems with the archival taping program...lack of funding.
