Well, as I mentioned in one of the Donna Murphy threads, last time I was at "Wonderful Town," Murphy was again out, and, since I'd seen Linda Muggleston, I exchanged the ticket for a later performance, so, like it or not, and unless the show closes before mid-October, I will be seeing Brooke Shields--and I will post a review here (I need to get some fun out of going to the performace).

I saw Brooke tonight and I don't really know what to say. I personally was not that impressed, she took a lot of notes down that I didn't think were really that high (End of "Hundred Easy Ways...")But I enjoyed her in "Swing" even if she was lacking vocally. The audience ate her up though and hopefully she will bring the show an audience. (However I got my ticket tonight free through my school) It was also Jennifer Hope Wills first night as Eileen and I really liked her performance. It was a bit weird for me to see it with so many new people. I mean I'm used to seeing Muggleston and Nancy Anderson in the show anyway, so these were totally new faces. Gregg Edelman was out due to "Opening Doors" so Matthew Shepard was on for him. Overall I think that the average theatre goer will enjoy the show, but those who saw it with Murphy or Muggleston might long for the old cast. Oh and "Wrong Note Rag" just sounded "wrong". It's definetly worth checking out though if you get the chance, to fill the theatre and make your own opinion and not just go by mine.

I don't quite know how to ask this... With Shields in the lead, were you expecting to be impressed?

C'mon, guys. I've seen her in the shows she's done so far on Broadway and while she's no Julie Andrews, she brings people to the theatre and gives it all she has.

Thank you, Matt. Just because someone is a TV star doesn't mean they can't do Broadway. Not to mention, just because someone is not the greatest singer in the world hasn't stopped many a Broadway actor who's NOT a tv/film star. Give her a break.

Theres not much a lead actress can do when the show itself is HORRIBLE. It should just close.

That is just your opionion, cvapb. I happen to think the show itself is charming and funny, and the songs are all wonderful.

Yes. Do not mess with the brilliance of Bernstein & Comden & Green. You might not like it, but you should at least appreciate it.
& remember, no one wants Adolph Green rising from the dead to attack his critics.

At least she's not some pop-star with no acting experience. It could have been Avril or Shakira.

"she took a lot of notes down that I didn't think were really that high (End of "Hundred Easy Ways...")But I enjoyed her in "Swing" even if she was lacking vocally."

Remember the role was written for Rosalind Russell, a non-singer, so perhaps Brooke is actually singing the score as written. Donna said something about embelishing the vocals to make use of her great voice.

Yea, it is my opinion and I'm allowed to express my opinion. I also do not have to appreciate it. I didn't like it, and thats all there is too it.

DAMN THAT WOMAN IS HOT! But back on-topic: I was just poking a little fun at Brooke with that fake poster. I've never seen her on-stage but I do like her, have nothing against her and I hope she does amazing things in "Wonderful Town".

Ok, so I got tickets to see the new cast on opening night and here is my review… I LOVE the new Eileen Sherwood. She is WONERFUL, she brings a new different light to the character that I had never seen before. I thought Jennifer Westerfiled (SP) was also great, don’t get me wrong but there was just something that JENNIFER HOPE WILLS brought a different element to the role, as well as a very large chest…ooops, can I say that… oh well…
And now for Brooke. Hmmm. There is no use starting a thread to compare her to Donna. In my eyes, and in many others, Donna is and always will be Ruth Sherwood. )Please hold your countless post about her attendance, this is not what this is about…) I think Brooke will improve in time but some things will probably never change, Ohio was ok, not great but ok. “:100 easy way…” was really Fun util that final note… needs much work. I thought Conga was her high point by far as well as wrong note rag…. Both very cute while staying to there original style. Swing and the reprise of quiet girl need much help… many wrong notes and a look of being completely unsure of herself gave it away very quick!!! Her movements seems pretty fluent and non rehearsed so they looked pretty good. Her actual portrayal of Ruth Sherwood needs lots of help. I felt like there were several spots that need more expression as well as clarity to make them role better. Overall I say give the show a try… 5 out 10 from me… that of course is just my option. I will say this, I congratulate the entire new cast for all there hard work to making this show continue to run. As for the former cast members I wish them all the luck in the word and hope for a speedy recovery for Donna and Jennifer. Two VERY talented woman

i think most of the vets on this board would say that ROZ RUSSELL was and always will be Ruth Sherwood. But I'm glad you liked Brooke in the show..that's great! Updated On: 9/30/04 at 04:45 AM

I have to say this. This thread is about Brooke, but the one to watch in this show is Jennifer Hope Wills. I say this not just because she is a very dear friend of mine, but because she is one hell of a talented young lady. I've known and worked with her for years and she's going to re-light some lights on B'way. Mark my words. Oh, and, the big chest you saw...heheh...not really hers.
Go see Jennifer before this show closes. You won't be sorry.
