Hey everyone! I am conducting a project on Broadway discounted tickets - mostly student rush - and I wanted to get your view on it! Just let me know what method you use ( if any!) Thanks everyone!!
I've used both TKTS and student rush (and general rush). It just kind of depends whether or not A: I'm able to get to a theatre in time for rush B: what kind of rush it is and whether or not I can get enough tickets for my party (those one ticket per ID ones tend to get crossed out) and C: what kinds of prices and seats are offered through TKTS
I'm a big rush person. I was in New York in January for four days and we saw three shows all for rush and lottery prices. I'm a college student with very little money, so i was lucky i even got to go to New York.
I usually rush/lottery, mostly because waiting on line at the TKTS booth all day is interminable. I can get a rush ticket at a certain time, go have dinner or even back home, then come back for the show.
I prefer to use TKTS for a really cruel reason. If I get distracted during the show (mind wanders, turns out to be awful, etc.), I can enjoy the reactions of the tourists who had no idea what they were getting into. It's a hoot during real stinkers like In My Life (though I don't remember if I was given a ticket to that or went to TKTS).
Rush all the way. Cheaper, and I think you can pinpoint what show you want more than with TKTS. I view TKTS as something you do if you really don't have an idea what you want to see, but just want discounted seats. Rush is if you specifically know the show and have the urge to get up early enough to hunt it out.
