If say stephanie replaces idina(i hope not) will Shoshana be the standby or understudy still?

1. Shoshana is the standby for now, but she's starting a recording career, and would turn down the role even if offered.

2. Heather Headley never said she wanted to do the role...she said, "hmmm...that could be interesting" in response to a question about taking over for Idina. Heather is also busy with a recording career.

3. Sherie Scott is busy doing another show. =)

4. Stephanie would be a great replacement. Her belt is more exciting to hear than just about anyone on Broadway. However, as has been said, nothing is for sure until the contracts are out. Stepanie thought she was going to do the San Fran run of the show (since she was THE ONLY actress to do the role prior), and lost out to Idina, so it wouldn't be surprising to her if she didn't end up getting this, either. She never says anything to friends other than she hopes she'll get to do it, and the offer has been made. And as for her acting...no one beats Stephanie...her instincts are brilliant!! I'll be glad when the Bway community can see her play a character instead of a living legend. =)

I hate to see Idina leave, but she has to move on.... Stephanie was awesome in TBFO and I expect her to be just as good as Elphaba.. Not as good as Idina, but who is?

i am a big fan of idina and thoroughly enjoy her as elphaba everytime i see wicked, but it's time her her to move on to start shooting the rent movie!! i'm so excited about that. she also deserves a break... 3.5 years of 8 shows a week... that can drain a person Updated On: 11/11/04 at 10:27 PM

D'you mean Shoshana? Well, I think if she's starting a recording career she'd be too busy to have time to do Elphaba.

As for me, I've never heard Stephanie sing or act anything, but it'll definitely be refreshing to see a new face in the cast. If their judgment by picking JLT is anything to go by, then we have absolutely nothing to worry about. I mean, hey, I thought no one could replace Kristin but JLT was just as good, if not better, than she was. And so I'm sure Stephanie will do the role complete justice.

Moreover, I like Idina's portrayal of the role but she's been doing it for so long that I really do think she needs to move on to something else. Updated On: 11/12/04 at 08:29 AM

this is true. i mean its not like we can force shoshana to take the role. i think she would just be so good for it. i only saw it once and it was with her and i loved it. but hey i guess if she's going for recording artist being elephaba would slow her up.

Omg poor people who haven't had the oppurtunity to see Wicked yet and they've been listening to Idina and then they finally go to see Stephanie! Totally different voices! Not the same at all.. plus people might not like her and that could damage her career. Updated On: 11/12/04 at 09:02 PM

munkustrap --

idina hasn't "peformed", per say, in wicked for 3.5 years, but she has been involved in the show for that long with rehersals, the pre-broadway run in san francisco, and the year on broadway. i have read this in numerous interviews.
