Yeah i have to agree with munkustrap178, they should just say Thank You but no and just tell them what they need to improve on but to personally attack them and make them feel like crap is just pushing the limit. I mean in real dance auditions they either say "Thank You or No Thank You" if they just did that then i think it would make the dancers that arn't so good feel okay. And they seriously need to start showing the amazing dancers auditions on the tv!!!

"I was pulling for the African-American guy who had been adopted."

That was Henry, and I was pulling for him too!

Honey, I don't produce theater. I am theater.

up this week: Benji and Donyelle dance "Broadway" to "You Can't Stop the Beat" :) Apparently they did a super-good job.

I didn't name it "Broadway"...that's the show. I get my info poking around on various message boards here and there. People who go to tapings post their news! Less than 24 hours till next episode. yay :)

eek!

I missed the show tonight cause of a rehearsal - heard it was Musa and Ash that left? Can anyone tell me what the third couple was?

I was bummed to heard about Musa leaving cause I think him and Natalie are so great together, BUT if it's going to solo starting next week, that makes it easier.

I know he's prolly great, but is it me or is it like, WHY is Dmitri on this show still? I think it's just that he hasn't gotten a style to show off his forte, cause I only remember seeing him do hip hop, and then the contemporary with Alex toward the beginning (which was great) but since then it's like, he's 'eh', y'know?

Maybe now that htey're doing solos we'll see what he's really got.

Listen,

I LOOOOVE Benji and Donyelle!

and I'm sorry but I think it's wrong that they're voting off 1 guy and 1 girl each show.

Out of the remaining dancers, the bottom two I think are very obviously Ryan and Ivan. All 4 girls are much better (and more versatile) than either of them. It's ridiculous that one of those amazing girls will get sent home before either of those guys.

I for one would be really interested to see some same sex pairing. I mean, they've done lots of styles that don't require lifting and necessarily partnering, I'd love to see some Broadway or Contemporary with 2 women working together, y'know? That'd be fierce, and it's not like it'd be difficult to pull off - just leave the 'must have a partner' ballroom stuff out of it for one episode.

Just sucks for hte girls I think...

"there's two girls and two boys that will make the top 4 finals. if i had my way it would be travis, allison, donyelle(sp) (i really hope she gets better she is so amazing), and benji. "

I completely agree with this. I think those are the top 4. From there, I think Allison would be number 4 for me, beyond that, I'm not sure. I have a soft spot for Donyelle and Benji, but that's a personal opinion; dance wise, I know Travis is just as good and I adore him as well.

Alison...I know she's good but I feel like...she's great at what she does (contemporary) and GOOD at everything she's done, but like, a handful of others are GREAT at everything, not just 'their style' of dancing, y'know? Just my 2 cents.

Not sure if I agree with the comment about Donyelle not bringing out stuff in partners. There were all these moments during her routines with Dmitry when she'd look over to him to share a moment and have some playing off of one another, and he just ignored her every time - I don't think he ever made eye contact with her, it was almost like he was dancing alone up there...

just something I noticed and felt bad for her. It made me think of those times when you're on stage with a really bad actor and you ahve to try to create a moment and they're jsut not along for the ride at all - so frustrating.

Lauren - I'm glad we're cool now. Again, sorry that my original post came across wrong. I suck sometimes. :)

I agree about Tyce's choreography, but I'm not gonna lie: I didn't dislike the Steam Heat choreo, and then from Hairspray on I've been so disappointed in every broadway number. I feel like when they get broadway it's like...the free space on teh bingo board; easy pass to the next round; whatever you wanna call it. Like the dancing will be easy, just go have fun and act. That's broadway dance style -????

um, people study for years in the fosse technique - why don't they do REAL fosse? not tyce's idea of fosse-esque. It would be a dream come true to me if they brought in Jerry Mitchell, Wayne Cilento, or Kathleen Marshall to name a few to guest choreograph the broadway numbers; let em' see what it's really about.

ps. for those that mentioned this, I think there IS a petition to bring the tour to texas, and I knwo they just added 6 more tour dates along the east coast after tampa (though still not TX if I remember correctly). There was talk of it over on the fox message boards for the show.

Anyone else get tix for the tour? Phew, that was...an adventure, lol.

Just wanted to give y'all the heads up cause I knew you were mentioning not having to worry about spoilers anymore...

ruh roe.

You do. What we look for in a dancer

Word is that they're taping some of the performances this Monday.

Not sure if this is just the guest artists (Ciara - I know Fergie's performance was taped last Monday already), or some of the group dances (if they're doing them, which I assume) or some of the finalists dances or what, but I do know there is a taping this Monday for some segments of the finale results show...

SO LOOK OUT! What we look for in a dancer

I got to see the tour last night. The stage was pretty bare except for four screens, one big one and three smaller ones. The big one mostly had the "SYTYCD" logo and occasionally showed clips from the show, including introductions from Nigel and Cat Deeley.

It was surreal seeing the dancers on stage because the set-up was so much like the TV show. Each dancer got to dance a solo as well as some of their most famous dances from the show. If I'm not mistaken, there were three dances performed that were not previously seen on the show. One choreographed by Travis, another choreographed by Dmitri, and the Las Vegas Benji-Heidi routine (which can be seen on YouTube).

The biggest applause of the evening went to the aforementioned Benji-Heidi routine which received a standing ovation. Other stand-out performances are the Benji-Travis hip hop dance, Travis-Heidi bench contemporary dance, and the disco section. And yes, right at the beginning of the show, Dmitri rips his shirt open. His solo is also performed shirtless.

What was great about seeing this tour is that the dancers all seemed to be enjoying what they were doing. I was amazed that the theater was sold out and even though I was expecting a bunch of screaming girls in the crowd (which there were), the audience was a very mixed group. Old-young-straight-gay-male-female.

#640Saw the tour in Cleveland last night
Posted: 10/1/06 at 12:14am

Got to see the tour here in Cleveland last night.

It's such a good time. Just so much fun to go out and be jammin' in your seat and be treated to a night of great dancing of all genres, by people who obviosly are having a blast dancing and dancing with one another. A really great time, I'd highly recommend it to anyone who may be able to get their hands on tix.

Also, it's so incredible how different some things and/or dancers are when seen live. Ivan, for example...is mindblowing in person. I didn't DISlike him on the show nor was he my fave at all, but when you see him live...it's so incredible what he's capable of and it just lost something via television.

There are simply no words for Mia Michaels' contemporary piece with the Sunflower and the Bench performed by Travis and Heidi. Quite unexpectedly, myself and my friend I went with found ourselves in tears - it's just absolutely moving and Mia Michaels is brilliant. Live there is just so much emotion and heartache in it - so many moments that the tv can't capture that you instantly find yourself in tears because it's like a punch to the stomach someone ripped your heart out moment...I can't explain it.

Travis choreographed a contemporary piece for him and Natalie that is equally moving. As an artist, those two dances and the Benji/Donyelle vienesse waltz will always stay with me because they moved me so much.

The Travis/Benji hip hop dork dance is a lot of fun live as well - that's one I was so not into when it was on the show but I have to admit, it's a good time when you're watching it right in front of you. The energy is just contagious.

The SexyLove choreography is so good - something I'd not realized until I saw it live. Natalie/Dmitry disco is pretty great too.

Heidi must have an IV of RedBull when she's not onstage, lol. She's in so many dances, all of which are physically demanding and energetic and just never lets up or looks like she's slowin' down. I don't know how she does it...

Going into this, I had my faves (Benji and Donny) and they CERTAINLY did not disappoint, but as you can tell, a lot of people far-exceeded my expecations seeing them perform live.

More than anything probably, I was so fascinated watching so much contemporary (whether couples dances or individual solos). It's nothing new to me entirely, but it's so rarely seen, so it was just mesmerizing to see people moving their bodies in that way...I'm in absolutely awe and fascinated with the contemporary style after seeing it live.

Met the dancers afterwards as well. They're all so gracious and nice. They really try to avoid just giving an autograph, takin' a pic and then going on down the line. if you didn't start a conversation with them as they were signing, they'd start one with you. And they really took a few minutes with each person and kinda had their 'moment' with them before moving on. They all stayed until every last person had gotten what they needed/wanted and were honestly just really great and fun to chat with.

From speaking with them, Benji, Natalie and Donyelle seemed particularly humble. Don't get me wrong, NO ONE was even remotely diva-ish, but just the way they reacted and seemed honestly and deeply touched by compliments and thank you's. Natalie actually came back through the line before getting on the bus and approached the fans herself to say a personal thank you for making all of their dreams come true and to say they loved everyone and...it was really cool.

I got to talk a lot with Donyelle and she was just amazing. We talked about dance and musical theatre nad what we both wanna do and she was just really encouraging of my own dreams which really she didn't need to be, y'know? She was just great.

Said she eventually wants to make her way to Broadway, but is trying to make the most of hte short time she'll have to make it as a dancer before switching over to the acting/singing department as there are roles for all ages in musical theatre unlike the dance world. I'm hoping to see her there someday. :)

Um...yeah, I'll stop rambling now. All in all it was a really great night, and I'd recommend the tour for anyone who's a fan, and sticking around ot see them afterwards. It's worth it, they're all really sweet and fun.
