I think funny girl for her is sort of out of the cards. I truly think the role belongs to analeigh ashford. That doesn't meant she can't be in anything else. Could she be in a gypsy revival? Another idea is singin in the rain.

Why does the role "belong" to "Analeigh"? (her name is actually Annaleigh, btw) The role truly belongs to Barbra Streisand.

In any case, if Lea Michele returns to Broadway, I'm sure she'd like it to be in an original role.

I'd love to see her back on Broadway, personally. It'd be interesting to see how her voice fares now that she's adapted to the more pop sound at Glee and through her album. I remember her talking about how she and Matt Morrison were told they needed to tone down their vibrato when they first started recording for Glee, ha!

she's made too much money (much easier money compared to theatre actors) in Hollywood to ever consider coming back to Broadway

The thing is, besides being an utter toad of a human being, Riedel usually has the least knowledge of the topic in the room. He doesn't usually understand the content or approach of a show, and is always completely and unfailingly socially ignorant, which makes it really infuriating when Susan can't get a word in edgewise. A definitive mansplainer; it's always painful when he has female guests. I watch the show sporadically when I really want to see a guest, because it's the only theatre talkshow we have, but it would be so much better without this hateful clown in a dadcoat. Matthew came back why can't she.

That "Gypsy" idea is....not a horrible idea? It's borderline crazy, but it could work. I'm trying to imagine what she'd be like a Gypsy Rose Lee. As Louise she could hit it out of the park. I think she's way overdue to come back. I would rather see her do a limited run revival than a open ended original show. What revival could she and Roundabout do?

I honestly would like to see her in a revival of Mack and Mabel. I'd love to hear that beautiful score get a chance to shine on broadway again. I think she could pull it off plus I don't think that show would be revived without a "star."

I take that thing I said about an original musical back, I agree with ratherbewhaling, she would kill that score of Mack & Mabel. I'm currently now imagining her singing Look What Happened to Mabel.

I agree that what this incredibly talented woman should have is a musical of her own, made to show off her unique self. Streisand didn't become a star by imitating her predecessors. (I don't know anything about Lea Michele as a person, but if she's got a healthy ego or is temperamental, as suggested above, Streisand is also an example of how that doesn't matter if you've also got genius.)

I'm definitely not a Michelle fan, but I'm willing to give any performer the benefit of the doubt.

That said, I cannot think of a single musical theater lead of significance that she would be appropriate for.

Annaleigh as Fanny Brice??? No. I am a HUGE Annaleigh Ashford fan, but I don't think that role is suited to her at all. I mean yes, Annaleigh is a funny girl, but that doesn't mean she's THE Funny Girl. Personally, I think her comedy is too broad and I also don't think she has the right voice for that role. Did you see her at 54 Below? Or listen to the recording of her show there? Her vocals are just not in any way comparable to those of Barbra, or even Lea Michele, for that matter. Who knows, though. That's just my personal opinion.

Back to our actual discussion... I agree with whoever said Lea wouldn't be likely to come back any time soon after how much money Fox probably threw at her to continue carrying Glee in it's last seasons and Scream Queens earlier this season. If she does come back, I'm willing to bet it will be in an original show or in a headlining role that is guaranteed to make some sort of profit. Plus, she's signed on for season 2 of Scream Queens and it's rumored she may appear on American Horror Story, she's writing a new book AND recording a new album. How could she possibly have time to squeeze a Broadway show anywhere into a schedule like that? As long as Ryan Murphy is cranking out hit TV shows, she'll have a place on TV and I don't see her turning that down any time soon.

Lea may be getting Hollywood money now, but that will all subside soon - have you seen the ratings for Scream Queens?

I'm no fan of Lea by any stretch of the imagination, so I hope she stays far away. She has a good voice, but IMO her acting isn't all that wonderful and her attitude and try-hard ways take away from what she could be.

I could see a smaller off-broadway production of "They're playing our song" led by Michele and Groff.

Lea in "Mack & Mabel" is a stroke of GENIUS. I hope someone from Roundabout is reading this thread. Make it happen, Broadway!

A lot of BW performers, (male and female) are egotistical bitches.

The sexism around here is off the charts.

1. There's no guarantee of a second season for Scream Queens and there might not be a decision made about whether it will return until this May.

2. The American Horror Story possibility is nothing more than a rumor created by fans of Lea who know she has said she wants to be on the show and assume that Ryan Murphy would cast her. They may be right; they may be wrong. But it is just a rumor at this point.

3. She already wrote the book and it was published last year. She's finished with the publicity, etc. for it.

4. She's said her album is due out in early 2016, which sounds like a majority of the work on it is done. That means it wouldn't necessarily be a problem in terms of her taking on a new project.

She said a few weeks ago that she doesn't have any definite work plans for 2016 at this point.

All that said, I agree that based on things she's said she wants to keep on doing TV and/or film, that she'll probably concentrate on looking for that type of work rather than live theater, and that Ryan Murphy will probably find something for her to do if Scream Queens doesn't return.

dramamama611: Sorry, I see how what I wrote could be misconstrued. First, I was using the word genius in the (very--from Jane Austin's time, like me!) old-fashioned sense--a strong, unique personality that makes someone fascinating. Second, I meant to apply the term to Streisand. (I don't know Michele well enough to even know if she has it, only that she can sing.)

She could be the character that can't really sing since apparently so many people hate her. She can't be that bad.
