Since I'm the guy with the "Sweeney Todd" logo as my icon, I figured I might as well go the distance and post on this thread.

"Sweeney Todd" is in my opinion, the best musical ever written, hands down, and I will play the title role one day, even if I really do have to start slitting people's throats to do it!

BTW, Kristen Chenoweth as Mrs. Lovett would be a stretch, to say the least.

TDB i totally agree with you. Sweeney is just an incredible piece of theatre. The score is amazing. The book is amazing. The intergration of these to create a seamless show where it is difficult to tell the difference between lyric and dialogue, and underscoring and actual songs. Stephen Sondheim was at the height of his genius for this show...and his other shows are brilliant

I love Sweeny. It's hands down my favorite Sondheim. I've worked on 2 productions of it, both times technically. I was on shift crew for one of them, and the only set piece was a 4-sided unit that rotated and things flipped up and down to create the different locations in the show. (It was in a blackbox) The piece was a bitch to move, and I had to stay in or around or behind the piece the whole show, but it was really cool and really served its purpose well and all that other fun stuff. :)

(This was also in PA for whoever said that above... PENNSYLVANIA POWER!! Okay, seriously, so glad to be living in NYC by now)

I just discovered this show and I'm so in love with it that I'm starting to scare my friends. At lunch today my friend Brian and I tried to convince other people that it was a great show, but just ended up freaking them out when we explained the story. Nothing like a murderous barber to cheer a girl up after seeing her candidate lose the presidency :/

haha...

Here in Oklahoma (where the wind...nevermind) we do a thing called Oklahoma Shakespearen Festival and last summer we did Sweeny Todd. Our wonderful head director played the lead and woah. I've never seen him do a better job. He was fanastic.

He kinda scared me a little, but isn't htat supposed to happen?

Just showed my high school drama class Sweeney...they were enthralled........Really makes the last 20 years of Broadway and the West End musicals look childish and tedious..........This show has aged very, very well...but for today's "Mamma Mia" audiences could become a problematic full-fledged revival. As for Chenowith..... an unseen "Mrs. Mooney?"
