Nope there is no such thing as bad PR and I am sure a lot of the sales stem from the curiosity factor or just the thought that it is going to be a darn good show, all that flying, scene changes, music by U2 and so forth.
I do respect others opinions, regardless, I still like to see shows for myself. Some may be critical of the book or the score, some my not mind either. I like to go to shows, mostly for the entertainment factor. I do prefer musicals over plays, but do go to both. If I like a show I will see it more then once, sometimes you catch something you missed the first time. As far as Spiderman goes, even though I am a U2 fan, I was not sure if I was going to see it. After reading about the flying acts, the changing scenes I became more interested, when the discounts became available I decided to buy and did this the day just before the first preview. I am going the end of the month, actually bought the tickets as a Christmas gift, (BTW-that show is sold out in a couple of days after the first preview). I also bought a ticket for a February show because I wanted to see what became of it after the show opened, and to view it from the flying circle. (My December seating is in the Orchestra)

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I bought tickets to Dec 22, which was the original night after opening night.
Last week I called to switch the tickets and after 2-3 minutes of explanation to the minimum wage customer service worker and 2-3 minutes on hold while he checked with whoever...he was ready to switch my tickets to any future date, any ticket same price tier.
I actually didn't choose to switch, because I was debating if I should wait longer to see the show and get a slightly better seat, or if i should go sooner before the show closed...
But I will definitely be called them back today and telling them to either give me a refund, or great seats for their best guess at night after opening day... knowing that I still might move them again.
And, if for some reason, they would have told me no. I would just dispute charges. I paid for an "official" show, not a "preview".

While I respect Julie Taymor for her work on The Lion King, I have a friend that went to the preview of Spiderman and he said it was a total turn off.
I'm lost as to why they would go ahead with it if it's had very little good response. I know, you don't have to go into the logistics of it all but still... it's just not fair to Taymor.
