...honestly, that's your suggestion in the midst of a discussion of somewhat exciting and new possibilities for what will be the last Maureen on Broadway? Someone who's done the role in a recent tour and was just barely on the good side of mediocre? I will never understand why Tracy McDowell seems to have so many shills and super sekrit BFFs on the internet.

apparently, it really is going to be Eden but not until sometime later in May.
which means someone is going to cover Maureen after Nicollette leaves.... which means someone is going to probably have to be brought in to play Marks Mom while Caren plays maureen.

Oh, I absolutely understand why it makes sense for RENT to want her. I was just wondering whether or not she couldn't do something a little more exciting following her run in Blonde. :) I'm sure she's got plenty of offers. Either way, she won't be taking over the role, I've learned, so I guess it's all just talk and gossip.

have to say- eden, will chase, merle dandridge, michael mcelroy... these are all more "broadway stars" then the rent recycling we are used to--- fairly impressive lineup.

Yeah, there's never been a FULL-TIME Latina Maureen to my knowledge, but a number of Maureen understudies have been.
Yaz, Karmine, and Karen all did.
I'm not sure if Antonique Smith was Latina or African-American, but she went on as Maureen when she was a swing. I saw some videos of it and her Maureen was far better than her Mimi, in my humble opinion.

Karen Olivo was not cast as Maureen. Like Karmine, Yassmin, and Caren,she was cast as a swing.

I think Tracy was an excellent Maureen and one of the stand outs on the tour last year. yeah, that's just my opinion, which means as much as anyone elses, yours included.
that's the funny thing about this board, everyone feels their opinion is the one that matters most.

They would have been smart to bring in Christine Dwyer from the most recent non-eq tour. She gave what was THE best performance I've ever seen a Rent cast member give.
Oh well... Maybe they'll put her on the tour instead. That would be a kazillion times better because I'd actually get to see her again.

First off, who is Christine, and why are you referring to me as that name? Second, you're just proving my point by being so defensive against my opinion.
I stick to all my opinions (about the preponderance of people with a special interest in Tracy, about her relative mediocrity) but I respect your more positive opinions about her as a performer.
For the record, this and past posts by you lead me to believe that you're overly invested in the identity of some of the posters on here. Thus, I think you're a creep.

Tracy was a swing for about a week in December. She knows Maureen and Mark's Mom. She's a great candidate because she knows Broadway Maureen and she can do it with a few rehearsals. If they are going to get Caren to be Maureen until Eden comes in, then Tracy could come in as Mark's Mom and understudy Maureen. OR they can bring Tracy in until Eden comes. Or they can just put Tracy as the last Maureen.

Exactly my point with Tracy there. Tracy is young and with Tracy there the cast can be kinda even. But Adam definitely will stick out... he does stick out a little bit now.

Do any of these people who keep promoting Tracy McDowell really think she's a fantastic Maureen, or is it just because she's so super sweet at the stagedoor?
I thought she was okay, nothing to write home about though. She'd certainly be an un-exciting choice for the final Maureen. I'd rather see Espinosa.

I haven't seen her Maureen, so I can't say anything about her performance, and I haven't said anything about it. I have seen her Ivy in Bare though, and she was very very good, she OWNED All Grown Up. I'm just saying that Tracy is a perfect person to be Maureen because she already knows the track. Nicolette is leaving in less than two weeks and the replacement Maureen is supposed to start on May 5th. Because of the short notice casting, Tracy is perfect candidate.
I love Eden, she's incredibly talented, and I can say that because I've seen her as Elphaba. I would be very excited if Eden was Maureen
