Sara has a pretty rough sprained ankle. She's on crutches.
If you think she be required to publish a doctors note and email it in to the chatteratti, I'm sure she'd be more than happy to.
Don't you people have something more exciting to do? Seriously...go for a walk...the city has some really nice parks.

I saw her perform in July, and didn't see her this past weekend (I presumed that she was ill or on vacation, and wouldn't give up my tickets for ANYTHING!) I enjoy her in the role, and IF she was slacking off, the producers would take her to task for it---IT"S NONE OF MY BUSINESS!!! Go to the show or don't---just qwitcherbitchin!

yeah, please don't bash Sara like that! Sara is awesome- she's talented, beautiful, and I love her! (I'll love her even more if I ever get a signed pic from her :)) But yeah, there was a thread like not even a week ago about performances Sara has been at, and ones that she hasnt, and just to tell you, there were a LOT more performances she has been at, than ones shes been out of.
so, GOOOOO SARA!!!!

To me it is all a matter of work ethic. There are people who have it (ie Harvey F.) and people who don't (insert your own here)
But if the bosses will put up with it not much you can do.

Posted: 10/3/05 at 3:36pmI think the Sara defenders are wrong on this. No one here is questioning her talent. Not at all. I for one think she is extremely talented, though I don't think she quite deserved the Tony Award, but that's neither here nor there. The fact is she is missing performances. Whether or not they are justified absences is irrelevant, simply because she made it irrelevant by missing on average three performances a week. (note I said "average"). The fact is SHE was cast as the Lady of the Lake, and as such has a duty to perform to the crowd of people who have paid to see the show. While there are understudies just as good and probably more deserving, it isn't relevant. She's the principal. If she cannot do it, for whatever reason, she should have either taken time off or left the show entirely. It's one thing to take a vacation or come down with an illness, but the show has been running for almost a year (including Chicago performances). It's inexcusable in ANY profession to miss so much work. If she had been filming a movie they would have recast her.

She has an extremely poor work ethic and I wouldnt blame the producers if they fired her. They are paying her to be up on that stage. If you or I had this work ethic we would be fired, regardless of talent.

Donna Murphy missed approximately 70+ performances due to various ailments. She also took time off to fly to LA to shoot a TV pilot, which was never picked up.
Jennifer Westfeldt was "taking a break" due to injury (some say foot problems, some say stomach problems) when, one day (about three weeks before Brooke Shields took over), she abruptly quit. Her understudy, Nancy Anderson, finished out Jennifer's contract and Jennifer Hope Wills was brought in as her replacement.

Oh the Donna memories.
The chances of actually seeing Donna at a performance of WONDERFUL TOWN were rare.
I'll never ever forget the response to Brooke Shields being announced as the replacement. And then Brooke gets raves reviews and saves the show. And we actually got an Eileen that could sing the coloratura part in CONVERSATION PIECE!

Again, why is it okay for Stephanie J Block to have missed an average of two or three shows a week, but not for someone like Sara? Yes, I know, Stephanie was "injured." How do we know that's not the case with Sara? How do we know what's been said and agreed upon between her and the producers and all that sort?

Who said it was ok? Stephanie Block has been raked over the coals here just like Murphy.
I think the main difference (and I no huge fan of either performer) between Block and Murphy/Ramirez is that there was nothing secretive about Block's absences. The producers (and Block herself) were up front about the injury sustained at the dress rehearsal. With Murphy and Ramirez, no official statement was (or has) ever been given. Evrything has been "mysterious", and that has lead to rumor and speculation.

Posted: 10/4/05 at 12:34amI see both sides of this-but Rockabye Hamlet, how can you question her work ethic? She could have some sort of serious illness. If that is the case she needs to take time off. Maybe she is lazy, or maybe there's something else going on.

Reguarding Stphanie Block she was hurt, everyone knew it and when she started missing to many performances due to the injury, she was temporarily replaced with Eden. I think that is why she isn't getting it as bad as Sara. It is true that when I saw Wicked I would have been disapointed if Ana was absent that night, but at the end of the day it would not have really mattered who I saw because I was there to see the show and not Ana. I go to see a show because I want to see the show, who is in it on a given night does not really matter to me in the slightest.

Block was that her injury was publiscized and we knew exactly what was wrong with her and she actually emailed people and had a reason to miss the performances because obviously, physical therapy isn't offered at midnight, so she had to miss a lot of matinees in order to get better. Though Sara has a valid excuse now, she still missed a ton even before her ankle injury.

Ramirez, on the otherhand, if an ailment kept her from performing, decided that she wouldn't take time out, that she would instead miss random performances. Offering no excuse to people as to why she was missing, and on top of missing tons of performances, STILL took a vacation. It's a matter of courtesy.
