RENT premiere?

Ok, so the RENT premiere is November 17, right? I just happen to be flying in that day, and I was wondering if there's anything us normal people can do for that. Is there a red carpet? Where is it? Are they doing anything else that day? Or that weekend for that matter? Any help is appreciated.

I'm pretty sure it's Red Carpet and closed to the public

It's at the Ziegfeld (141 W. 54th Street) at 7pm, and what would a premiere be without fans lining the sidewalk? So even though it's unlikely anyone who just shows up will get into the screening, you can watch the cast walk the red carpet.

I haven't heard about any other events around that time yet, but the Ellen show will be in NYC before Thanksgiving, and I wonder if she'll have some of the cast on.

I wasn't planning on getting into the screening (though I wouldn't be against it re: RENT premiere? ) but fans could line the red carpet? So, what time would the cast get there for a 7:00 screening? I've never done anything like this before, but I would love to and I want to know as much as possible about it.

Hey guys!

I have been in touch with SONY and there is definitely a "Red Carpet". The cast and celebrity guests will use it, and I will also get to make the walk! They also expressed the importance of security, so they expect to have people there.

IN CONCLUSION...
As far as I know, GET THERE! Hopefully you'll catch a glimpse of the cast and everyone. Say "Hi" if you see me!

Thanks!

Another HUGE Thank You to everyone for their support. I guarantee I will post as soon as I am able. I'm trying to get my video camera cleared for use on the carpet and at the afterparty.

WOO-HOO!!!

Ashley, it'll be right on 54th Street, you just have to get there early enough to get a fairly close spot. The photographers will be in the way, and there will be the usual barricades right along the carpet, but I doubt if they'll be blocking off the street or anything.

At movie premiere's they often give passes out to certain people for "red carpet access," and those are the only people allowed to stand along the red carpet and watch the action.

Sure, people can stand on the other side of the street, or can kind of hide places and act crazy, but my experience at premieres has been that the cops constantly clear the sidewalk.

Don't really expect to be able to see anything...it's more trouble than it's worth.

For premieres at the Ziegfeld theatre, the fans are barricaded across the street from where the red carpet is. The limos with the stars and celebrity guests will stop right in front of the entrance to the red carpet and it is each star's individual choice whether to cross the street and sign for the some of that fans. If anyone does sign, that will be it. The cast will have a huge press line to deal with before going inside to the premiere so it's not going to be time to have a long conversation with anyone or take photos with them or anything. If they are feeling generous, if they're not running late, etc., some of them might come over and sign a few things. On the red carpet will be the reporters from "ET," "Access Hollywood," "Extra," etc. so the main players have a lot of work to do before they can get inside and enjoy the movie.

I went to the premiere of "Troy" at the Ziegfeld so I'm sharing my experiences. That film started at 7:30 and I got there at 2pm and was right in the front row against the barricade directly across the street from the limo drop off. The advantage to going there (besides seeing Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, and Eric Bana in the flesh) was that the Ziegfeld usually reserves 100 seats in the balcony for fans who make the trek. At least that was my experience with "Troy." The security guards gave out 100 free tickets and, trust me, there were probably injuries as the fans stepped on each other and pushed each other down to get them. So it's possible that you'll get to see the movie if you wait outside all afternoon.

And you'll also be able to find out where the afterparty is, although the security there will be extremely heavy. The press and the paparazzi always wait outside there too so unless you have an actual ticket, you ain't gettin' in there.

Kyle, do you know times yet? That's crazy... I so was not thinking 2:00 for a 7pm showing. I'm not even getting into the city until 3. Well, I'll just have to play it by year. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for that answer which is what I am now reading in releases. Either I misunderstood her OR she has it wrong which would be horrible to then miss it, LOL. She is in NYC at college (I'm in another state) and so I just e mailed her to ask just to be sure. I know she is going and has the ticket.

Hmm...I wasn't going to go out of my way to stand along the red carpet, but I drive into the city every thursday, so at worse I'd give up my afternoon nap to go. My class ends at 2:45 so I probably wouldn't be able to get there till 4 the earliest. I have seen the cast at other events, I just thought it would be a cool thing to do, but if I really shouldn't expect to get anywhere near anyone, then maybe I should not leave earlier than usual for it. Maybe stop by at 5/6 to watch the craziness, what do you all think?

Maybe she just has a ticket to an advanced screening?

I know people who have gone to the Ziegfeld to wait outside for movie premieres, and they've all said that it's far more trouble than it's worth. I think I'll sit this one out.
