Tim Burton never dissapoints when it comes to prodcution design.

You know it will be beautiful.

I am very excited to see how this movie turns out.

I think wonderfulwizard's right, it'll be tons better once it has the set etc. Plus, Mr. Depp is a really physical actor and I'm sure he's come up with some interesting posture for Sweeney. I can't wait to see him in character.

PS: I totally agree with the butt comment.

All the lights are misty in the river
In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight
And all I see is him and me forever and forever."

Doesn't HBC look like Lovett anytime she is photographed walking the street?

The first thing I thought when I saw this was, 'this costume design is very SLEEPY HOLLOW-esque." Sure enough, it's the same designer. Thought that was funny. Sort of. A little bit. Edit: The same designer also did EDWARD SCISSORHANDS.

Michael Cerveris is only three years older than Depp. So I don't see why people are saying Depp is too young.

It's sort of like Sleepy Hollow meets Edward Scissorhands meets From Hell. I think it's nice. I'm not looking forward to this film, but I refuse to really judge anything about it simply from a pic of Depp outside of the studio. I'll say this though, I like the direction they're heading with it.

my immediate thought was "Edward Scissor-Todd". :) Still can't wait for the movie and glad that his daughter is doing better.

Sweeney's been locked up for 16 years, I'm sure he looks more like a holocaust survivor than a hulk.
-------------------------------------------

He's been locked up on an Australian work farm, and is strong enough to survive weeks at sea on a raft. He should be in hulkingly good shape, with scars and tanned, leathery skin.

You know, like Ron Perlman.

No, I'll never let it go.

Okay - I'm not troubled by the age, the hair, the skin, the eyes, the bottled water, the costume, or any of that. What I am struggling with is the need for threat and presence. With both Cariou and Cerveris, there were times when my skin crawled because they seemed like uncontrollable forces of nature. Depp is a good actor, and I like his work but he seems very - how to put this - slight for the role. I have plenty of confidence in him - I just don't know about Burton. But I'm still anxious to see this movie, no matter what the outcome.

Another example of Hollywood hiring skinny people for roles that require some size. I hope it tanks.

Eh, I sort of figured he'd look like this. I've always pictured Sweeney older, but I don't particularly have an opinion one way or the other.

What I do have an opinion about, however, is Helena Bonham Carter. I've never been overly fond of her, and the fact that she was cast as Mrs. Lovett pisses me off more than any casting ever should. I'm hanging onto the small thread of hope that she will surprise me and be fantastic, but I sincerely doubt it.

I can't talk now. I gotta go get my wallet out of the toaster.

i agree...in THIS picture, he looks too young for MY impression of what Sweeney Todd should look like.

Cruella De Vill...absolutely.

Sweeney Todd will now be skinning puppies and placing them in pies. Be prepared for Helena Bonham Carter to be wearing Glenn Close vintage ..1999

I have always believed that the choice of Helena Bonham Carter had something to do with Burton's concern about not having the Mrs. Lovett overwhelm (dare I say it) the teeny Todd. HBC and Depp are sibling-like in appearance and demeanor - like salt and pepper shakers.

It might be your fantasy, but I can't imagine living on poor food and being worked to death in the penal system is the same as a working vacation with nautilus equipment. They were deported to be worked to death.

You know, now that I think of it, the ONE recurring complaint I've always heard about Sweeney Todd over the years is that Len Cariou, George Hearn, Bob Gunton, Kelsey Grammar, and Brian Stokes Mitchell were all WAAAY too stocky and healthy-looking to be convincing. I'm glad Burton is finally correcting this injustice. And at last Sweeney has that single streak of white in his hair that comes from being in prison for so long.

Then again, Burton's films always have that unmistakeable touch of realism, so I guess it shouldn't surprise me that he's come through on this one.

"Depp is a good actor, and I like his work but he seems very - how to put this - slight for the role."

The man is cutting their throats from behind while they are sitting in a chair. It's not like he's overpowering the British army in hand-to-hand combat in the streets. Good grief! Sweeney is creepy, but by no means does he have to be Rambo.

His skin was pale and he could Tae Kwan Do Jet Li's ass to the motherf*ckin' ground!

Bored. I can't imagine this movie being thrilling, as I was bored to tears during Doyle's production.

I agree it looks like Edward Scissorhands, but at least this look is more online with Sweeney Todd than his Willy Wonka look!

I'm looking forward to this movie, even though I'm a huge fan of Sweeney Todd, and fear that this movie will ruin the musical. But I always try to find the best in everything, and will remain optimistic about this film until I see it. So here's hoping I'm not too let down!

My point was not Depp's physical size but his lack of presence. I just can't picture him dominating a scene or projecting intimidation or threat. It is, after all, not the mechanics of the act of cutting throats that makes him unique - it is his implacable drive for revenge.
