I don't recall anyone "throwing stones" here; people are just stating their opinions and, frankly, in a more level-headed manner than usual *coughWickedcough*. And really, what's offensive about this topic? If you want to see a really offensive topic, I would direct you to the "Wicked Lovers Suck" thread started yesterday, but it was *unfortunately* deleted. That being said, I'm joining the coloring pool (and I brought a box of 96 Crayolas!! Let the fun commence!!).

To everyone who asked why I "hate" Adam Pascal:
I don't hate him. I just found his performance in Aida to lack any sort of inspiration, and his voice was so raspy at points that he just sounded like he was growling. He just doesn't do it for me.

Evertime I go to NYC or even go see a professional show that comes through Philly, I can never get over the amout of untalented people. But I don't say I don't get them. And I was just sharing my point, I never once asked people to stop saying they don't get them. I was simply just sharing how I felt! That is my opinion on the subject. I don't mean this in a rude way I just don't really understand why insist on jumping on people. Do you get some kind of pleasure out of that? And if you think that this message board equals life to me, you are sadly mistaken. I actually get so much humor out of this message board such as people claiming that the highest not ever sung by a man in a musical is the high G in the money kept rolling in. Usually I don't post because I am too busy laughing!

Posted: 8/8/04 at 2:04ambroadwayboobs- Your name and icon crack me up. We had this crazy woman come into a tech rehearsal who claimed to be this big star back in the day. And she said to the girls that broadway is all about the boobs and said she had three words of advice for the girls, and i quote this exactly, "Tits up girls." That was her whole supposed words of wisdom to the cast, half of which were also men! I say all this and now i just hope that you weren't our motivational speaker.

The easiest way to "get" these performers is to actually see them. What makes them legendary performers is their PERFORMANCE, not just their voice on a CD. I didn't "get" many performers until I saw them and then I suddenly knew what all the hype was about. Most of them are extremely charismatic and don't have to have the best voice to completely charm an entire audience. From what I can tell from this thread, most people are just bitching about what they have heard on CD. It's really not a fair evalualtion.
And as I have said numerous times, if you think Idina screams, then you obvisouly have never heard anyone scream before. It's a very stupid comment to make.

I never understood Mary Martin and Ethel Merman. I saw them both in t heir prime and I believe the criticial encomiums heaped upon them were undeserved and ummerited. Nancy Walker was a magnificient comedienne and a performer of great depth, yet she never got vehicles that would showcase her talents. Vivienne Segal was too sophisticated, Vera Zorina could only dance, Carol Bruce came and went, Joan Blondell wasn't interested, etc. But then again, what do I know. Perhaps I'm too much of an old harpie!

Do you understand what is meant by "not getting them"? I take it to mean that they are well known as being great performers, yet upon seeing them personally you don't enjoy them, or understand why such a big fuss is made. It has nothing to do with disrespect or ignorance. It's just that YOUR personal opinion is that YOU don't like them.

Anywho...I honestly haven't seen enough shows to make a judgment. Although I was a bit underwhelemed by Joel Grey in Wicked...preferred his u/s much better.
