I know that everyone has them...Musicals that definitely fall under the "Cheezy" category, but that we listen to all of the time in secret. I have many. I will list two:
I don't listen.. as I can't stand the original cast recording... but Mamma Mia on Broadway is a guilty pleasure.... *8shrugs** I can't help it. I findn Joe Machota irresistable..
i treated phantom of the opera like a religion when i was in 5th grade. i was very serious about it. now i can understand it has some major flaws and most parts of it are pretty annoying but i still have a huge soft spot for it and left the theater shaking when i saw it again a few months ago. :)
Ok, cheezy... How about Lil Abner? I found the OBC Recording a few months ago and I occassionally catch myself whistling "Jubilation T. Cornpone". Then I look both ways to see if anyone heard me!
Every so often I flip the iPod dial to the Sound of Music while I'm at work and look around at my coworks clacking away while listening to the goatherd song.
See, even we Sondheim snobs can visit the hoi poloi every so often...
I sing for myself. I sing when I want, whenever I want to, just for me. I sing for my own pleasure. Do you understand that?
Mamma Mia Big Bombay Dreams Jane Eyre Barnum I Love My Wife Seussical Joseph (original Broadway cast) Starlight Express (original London cast) Starmites
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
The New Starlight Express... I LOVE it. LOOOOOOOOVE it. Okay? I know it's wrong, but it feels so right! LOL!
"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."
"The Sound of Music" - A true classic the music NEVER gets old. It has lifted me from many dark times in my life. "Joseph" "Mamma Mia!" "Footloose" "Movin' Out"
Marquise - I have this odd need to do the little dance every time I leave the office... Now you have me listening to it - and it is 5:00, so I'm outta here, just me and Julie Andrews and a gaggle of little children
...and up in the nursery an absurd little bird is popping up to say cuckoo
I sing for myself. I sing when I want, whenever I want to, just for me. I sing for my own pleasure. Do you understand that?
BIG is not a guilt pleasure. BIG had a great score. the book needed work, that's all. My guilty pleasures are: Seussical, Thoroughly Modern Millie (great dancing) and the Apple Tree, actually scratch that, i luv the apple tree and am proud of it.
"Sing the words, Patti!!!!" Stephen Sondheim to Patti LuPone.
DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES!!!!!!!! One of the biggest flops, but the best choreography ever.
When someone blunders, we say that he makes a misstep. Is it then not clear that all the ills of mankind, all the tragic misfortunes that fill our history books, all the political blunders, all the failures of the great leaders have arisen merely from a lack of skill in dancing. - Moliere
