Maybe now oprah will give then some shout outs on her show or a few performances or something. I wish she'd have Wicked in Chicago on her show already!
That's actually very smart on The Color Purple's part. Oprah's name is huge: any book that she mentions on her show jumps onto the bestseller's list, hopefully she'll plug CP!
I think now The Color Purple will be an instant success. I echo what other people have said; that I hope she brings the cast on her show.
"Chicago is it's own incredible theater town right there smack down in the middle of the heartland. What a great city! I can see why Oprah likes to live there!" - Dee Hoty :-D
OBVIOUSLY she's not going to be in the show, as Oprah can't sing - but why would you say something like that? Have you seen the film THE COLOR PURPLE? Oprah Winfrey is an amazing actress and she was robbed of an Oscar.

this is really great news for the show. i hope it has a very warm reception and lachanze is given some nice facetime on the talkshow! people across america would just eat her up.
Well its a great PR move, obviously -- though OPRAH WINFREY is already so synonymous with the film, THE COLOR PURPLE, I don't think it's going to cause the cathartic, unexpected upswing at the Box Office that say, OPRAH WINFREY presents IN MY LIFE might have done...
Beware i have a strange feeling that "Color Purple" will be a dog and last 6 months the movie was a dog the book was great and from what i have heard of the score.......tragic

Yes, the movie was amazing. And Oprah is not a singer. Witness her opening to her show a few years back when she sang the opening song.
I partially agree that her name being attached may not sell the show out. She is already connected to TCP. I have a bit of a problem calling it Oprah Winfrey presents... She is only kicking in 1 million of the 10 million dollar budget. Quincy Jones has been one of the producers also. But I know, it's HER name they want.
The Times article said that she plans to feature the musical on her show. How nice. Yes, she has an interest in the show, but over the years she really hasn't shown much interest in Broadway. At least not on her show. I know she attends the theatre. So I have mixed feelings about this.
Great news for the show. I hope it has a long healthy run (but the score needs some beefing up from the tryout). Personally, I felt the film was robbed of every award for which it was nominated (especially Song and Score, are they completely deaf?) and has earned a place as an American classic film. It's a real shame Out of Africa won so many awards for being so horrendously dull, but then considering wins for The English Patient and A Beautiful Mind, it is not surprising.

I am not saying she has to feature a lot. Broadway is dark on Mondays and a lot of shows come through Chicago. And a lot of actors fly into Chicago to be on her show that live clear out in L.A. The only Broadway show I can remember seeing on her show was The Lion King. And the show wasn't devoted to the musical, it was on one of her making people's dreams come true shows.
