I'll tell ya one thing that hasn't changed in all this Spidey chaos: I still have zero desire to ever see it.

Call me crazy, but I'm a sucker for a good story and score.

I guess this proves the critics right for reviewing it when they did. There's clearly no point in waiting for an "Opening Night" which is not in the foreseeable future (if ever).

Delaying the opening past the Tony cut-off date could also be face-saving for the show, which might not have received many nominations anyways. Now they can say they won't be eligible until 2012.

Meanwhile... people will still go to the show. It's Spider-Man! Out of town people will be drawn by the fact that it's Spider-Man, that the music is by U2, that the advertising has selectively quoted "Spectacular!" from the reviews (omitting the word "failure" after "spectacular), and out-of-town people won't know if the show has "opened" or not. The Addams Family did not receive favorable reviews--but it's drawing on the fact that it's The Addams Family.

The Lord of the Rings musical lasted 6 months in Toronto and 13 months in London. It wouldn't surprise me if Spider-Man ran at least that long or longer, even without an actual Opening Night.

I get that this is Bono/U2's first Broadway production, but they should know BY NOW (after 20 years touring) that you have to be accessable to make something better and make improvements. Those idiots, just went on their tour. They should have been at the Spider-Man previews the day it started and not left until it opened and was ready to go.

I think even Bono gave up on the show.

If all they are doing is adjusting the sound, then this is the stupidest press release ever.

WhoTF CARES?!

And why does adjusting the sound lead to delays in the opening? Will they delay if the concession stand in the lobby is out of M&Ms?

I'm waiting for the statement saying that they don't need an opening night because they're a "rock and roll circus" and not a musical.

I would think Bono & The Edge were on board in the beginning and put time aside for the show, but with all of the Spider-Man delays, Bono's accident and surgery and the delay of their world tour, it probably totally threw the timing off for them to be available for the show. If I am not mistaken, Spider-Man was supposed to open before they went out on tour. Like about 4 months before their tour was scheduled to start. So they would have been finished with Spider-Man. And these guys have obligations outside of this show. Just my random thoughts.

...and that there's a pool party at Julie Taymor's, but instead of the pool being filled with water it's filled with money. And that you're not invited, you just have to sit through Spider-Man: It's Always A Dress Rehearsal.

I don't know why this should make me angry, but it does. I don't even care anymore, except that I'd like for it to open so we could stop talking about this fiasco and Julie Taymor could go away.

Sadly, it's become glaringly obvious that Taymor is not a storyteller. She's a stylist. I've never seen anything she's done that connected as a story with an emotional life. Her work has more in common with a fashion show than a narrative.

I have heard many creatives titles for this show, but I think Spider-Man: It's Always a Dress Rehearsal has to be my favorite. Nice, Kad.

And, though Taymor may be winning the battle here by basically getting her way on anything and everything with this show, she's losing the war, since no one is ever going to want to work with or hire her ever again.

Without ever opening, this show may run longer than any previous show at the Hilton/Foxwoods

Reidel should have fun with this in his Wednesday column. Just like Pacino said as Michael Corleone "They keep dragging me back in".

Just when you thought it safe to go back to the theater. Cue the JAWS theme.

they should just announce that the show will be in previews until further notice. then when they(Julie, etc.) feel the show is set, announce an opening date.

i feel the most sorry for the actors. to be constantly doing a show that's always changing. i wonder how many cast member wish they could leave the show.

Lets see.
With major new shows: Catch Me If You Can
Sister Act
The Book of Morman
Priscilla

Major Plays: Bengal Tiger
War Horse

Revivals: That Championship Season
How to Succeed
Anything Goes

Harvey going into La Cage

Not to mention off and off of broadway.

Why is it the only thing that people can talk about is a multi million dollar flop, directed by a meglamaniac .. with a score by a rock band that is so self important they can't waste their time going to a rehearsal?

To hell with spiderman - time to talk real theatre.

That is a good one. My brother referred to is as "Spider-Man: Always a Bridesmaid" the other day.

The critics who just 'had' to review the show before the press night have done them a favour, thats the ironic thing. With pretty much all the reviews out they really dont have to be in any hurry to open it now. Opening night is simply for critics, they have done that already.

Opening is also when you're supposed to have a pretty much finished product (Or as far as Julie is concerned they're at the finished product). Spider-Man is nowhere near that. Bringing in a consultant to 'help improve the performance, vocal and orchestration arrangements, and sound quality of the songs and numbers' obviously shows that they don't know what the **** they're doing with this show.
