I saw the show last July, so yes, I agree that Norbert is fantastic in the role. I'm bringing my mother to NY SPECIFICALLY to see Norbert, so to say I'll be disappointed if he's not performing would be an understatement.
Norbert was in yesterday? I think it's almost safe to say, and being in today's shows will be 100% confirmation then, when Joe told me he's back on track, he did indeed mean feeling better and back w/ the show on an everyday basis...here's hoping!

I have not heard anything other than what I saw on ATC, Wendy. I was with WRQ when she heard Joe tell her that (albiet across from her) so I sincerely hope that he is okay. Though last night was J. Pyrce's first so I cannot say for sure if hes 100%. He certainly sounded so Sunday night.
I saw him at yesterday's matinee and he was brilliant. He sounded great.

Just an update...saw the show on Friday, the 20th and Norbert was IN and FANTASTIC. He gave the usual 110%. There were a few moments, mostly speaking, that I could hear a little raspiness in his voice, but it didn't affect his performance at all.
He was out of the show again and IF he in fact does have a rupture OR a nodule or node, he should take the time he needs whether audiences like it or not. Surgery on vocal cords is no minor thing and it can ruin your voice forever (ala Julie Andrews).
When Nathan Lane had problems with his vocal cords in Producers 1st run, he stayed in as Butz is trying to do and was finally told that if he didn't take the required time off for rest the damage could be permanent.
I know audiences will be disappointed but NO SHOW is worth your career. Butz needs to do what is right for his health.
Well, I sure that Norbert knows what he is doing. He seems to be only doing 5 shows a week right now so perhaps he is resting his voice more. I do feel though that he should not have been doing a few shows last week when he should have been resting. But of course, it was Jonathan Pryce's first week.
And again about Julie Andrews, she was a victim of a botched surgery. Regular surgery did not end her career.
The surgeon did not set out to botch Andrews' surgery. Many people have had this problem in spite of consulting good doctors. The vocal cords are delicate and anything can happen when you work on them surgically.
As for NLB 'knowing what he is doing', he would be consulting a physician who specializes in this kind of thing and if he performs when he should not out of a feeling of dedication to his audience as Nathan Lane did in the Producers, he will end up taking even more time off OR sustaining serious or permanent damage. Vocal cords are not something to be trifled with...especially if you are a musical stage actor.
He was on today for the matinee and probably the evening show. So...not quite sure why he missed yesterday.
Oh and Jonathan Pyrce missed yesterday's show bc he is out till Friday, filming for Pirates of the Carribean. Thanks to Greg for the info. Updated On: 1/25/06 at 08:18 PM
My brother is friends w 2 of the producers, so i've asked him to try & get me backstage. Dunno if anything will come of it but would love to meet some of the talent who have entertained me so much. Nothing ventured!
I feel so sorry for Norby having to try to perform next to JP with that piece of road-kill on his head. It has to be distracting! Who is in charge of the wigs in this show?

I saw the show last Friday night, the day Jonathan Pryce returned from filming Pirates of the Carribean. I went on Wednesday morning to get tix but the guy at the box office said that out of the 4 stars Norbert was the only on in. He said Sherie was sick, Jonathan was filming and Joanna had foot surgery. When I saw it Friday night Joanna was wearing sneakers for most of the show. Is this normal? Also, I'm not sure if it was supposed to happen, but Norbert repeatedly humped JP onstage in the scene where they're trying to ward off the Texan. It was HYSTERICAL, and I couldn't help but see a somewhat surprised look on JP's face. JP also said that he was going to "Detroit" at the end and Norbert cracked up. I've never seen the show, so hopefully some of you guys would know the answers. I waited around to meet JP after the show and he was pretty nice, but there was one guy who was with him who was peeved and kept saying stuff under his breath and looked genuinely angry at those wanting to meet him. I just thought that was odd . . .
BA, glad you enjoyed the show. Yeah. what you described is part of Norbert's performance. Glad to see he has great chemistry with Jonathan already!. How was the stage door anyway? It was always so crowded because of John Lithgow. I am curious to see how it is now. Oh and was that man by him kind of old and bald? Probably the door man Kevin.
"but the guy at the box office said that out of the 4 stars Norbert was the only on in"
Since when is there 4 stars in DRS?? I've never heard that said before!
BA, please describe the person at the box office who told you this, I will need to have a talk with him next time I'm there...
